Creating a SID/STAR ?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow PMDG users!I just spent about 2 hours searching this forum, my docs, and a few tutorials. Now I have a few questions...Question 1 and 2:What program do you use to write the SID/STAR code, and how do you compile the SID/STAR code? I am "sure" this has been asked before so please don't get mad at me for asking again... I could not find the answer.Question 3:Is there a "free" source available to obtain SID/STAR charts... I am interested in Atlantic Canada in particuliar and the rest of Canada in general.Question 4:Does anyone have a SID/STAR for Halifax International - CYHZ? A side note:I was flying a 2 channel approach today when for some reason the outside view went blank and I could not change views from the 2D panel. Anyway, rather than stop the sim, I continued down and landed successfully. A completely blind landing... I actually tensed up! Thanks!

Hi there ?? (name?)1) and 2): You can use Notepad, no other program required. There's a very good tutorial on making your own SID and STAR's available in the library made by Terry Yingling, search for 737_procedure_tutorial_3. 3)Go to www.Navdata.at and take a look under charts. You can also obtain some charts at the Nima site here: https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/t...h/term_Main.cfmTake a look at this one too: http://bathursted.ccnb.nb.ca/vatcan/fir/moncton/CYHZ.html4) I don't know of any other than the one i PMDG_Procedures_0405 database. But it can be done...

Thanks a bunch. I got everything I needed from those links. Except... where do you put the SID/STAR code once it's written. Terry's tutorial does not say. Yes... I'm an abvious noob! Thanks again!MurraySide Note:The PMDG is by far the best product addon I have ever purchased... Flight 1's Meridain is a darn close second. I have them both now and I have not slept (much) in the past 6 days. The great docs, the excellent tutorials (from the community)... I'm simply overwelmed with excitement and satisfaction. Thanks PMDG, thanks Flight1, and specail thanks to all you in the community for offering your time and effort. If I every win the lottery...

The sidstar file goes in Flight Simulator 9/PMDG/SIDSTARSAs was already said, these files aren't "code" they're plain text and the system Anthony devised for them is just plain brilliant if you ask me - it's almost like natural language.

Just an addition to what everyone has said I use fscharts.com to create my sids and stars it is free you just need to sign up. It does not use a PDF format so at least on my computer it is easier. I am able to reduce the size of notepad and the browser and have them both open at the same time that way I can write the SID and view the chart all at the same time. Good luck and make sure you read that tutorial close other wise you will get lots of errors.
