FLT position and some others

Recommended Posts

Hello,I have been studying the 737-800 again from real manuals today and in normal procedures they say that whenever there are lots of precipitations, you should turn the engine start switches to FLT. But when I try to do it with PMDG, it just makes KNOCK and it returnes back to OFF. Any ideas why? Also, when selecting Wing Antiice off with PMDG plane, the lights go out immidiately. In real, they should go fully bright and then extinguish when valves are closed like the eng aice does...The manual also says that when you are taking off and passing 80 knots, the FMA mode should go automatically to THR HOLD when A/T is engaged, never seen with PMDG yet. ;)Thanks for help!

Not sure about your FLT switch returning however as you probably know by now as a result of your reading, in order to achieve the same effect, switch the igniter selection switch to 'BOTH' - probably none of this modelled, but hey, realism is realism.Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. Hmm, never saw there that BOTH makes same like FLT. Both should be the selector when using GND mode, isnt it? With CONT and FLT it should automatically power up both igniters.

Both isn't normally used with GND.Both + CONT is the same as selecting FLT.Regards,Mark

>The manual also says that when you are taking off and passing>80 knots, the FMA mode should go automatically to THR HOLD>when A/T is engaged, never seen with PMDG yet. ;)You will see this only when using TO/GA mode for takeoff. In this case, returning throttle to idle *SHOULD* abort t/o.I say should because the rare times i tried, it didn't work.It worked only after shutting down the autothrottle...

Yea thanks for the answer, I opened the manual once again and the point is that you have to activate TOGA after 80 kts, otherwise it will not give you THR HOLD mode.

Thanks! Yeah the BOTH is not used with GND, but I just wondered if it makes any sense with CONT or FLT modes :)>Both isn't normally used with GND.>>Both + CONT is the same as selecting FLT.>>Regards,>>Mark

Sorry guys about not being specific about the CONT bit above :) Kinda slipped my mind ;)Geoffrey BaleanCanberra, AU (YSCB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg http://www.vozvirtual.org/images/pmdgforumsignature.png"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. Yeah I thought about it littlebit and it is so that the CONT mode just keeps the corresponding ignitor energized, so it matters if you select A, B or BOTH. FLT keeps both energized and does not depend on the selected ignitor.

seems a bit is missing... IIRC, CONT is used for energizing the selected ignitors (L, R or BOTH) to prevent a flameout (heavy rain, etc etc), FLT is used for a windmilling start (BOTH INGNITORS regardless of selector position). If N1-N2 goes down you need to use the GND position for a bleed air start even if inflight (always on the PMDG since there is no windmilling effect, maybe sometime? :9 ). "I opened the manual once again and the point is that you have to activate TOGA after 80 kts, otherwise it will not give you THR HOLD mode."Try to hit the TOGA button well before 80 kts (some Boeings won't go into Thrust Hold Mode if you are too close to the normal thrust hold speed). In PMDG, the A/T will go into thrust hold mode at 80 kts, but "THR HOLD" won't appear on your PFD until 84kts. This is the same as the real aircraft. If it is not happening to you, then there is something not set up correctly.Cheeers.Ian.

Actually, no it has nothing to do with whether you're in flight or not. FLT is, as described in a previous post, just a shortcut for getting both igniters running continuously.

Yes, but anyways, the FLT is not working in PMDG for some reason.>Actually, no it has nothing to do with whether you're in>flight or not. FLT is, as described in a previous post, just>a shortcut for getting both igniters running continuously.
