Enter a holding pattern / STAR creation

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.Is there a way to select how I will enter a holding pattern in the PMDG?In SBRF, VOR 18 DESCENT DELTA 1 procedure says that I have to maintain R-032 for 2.5 min and then turn to intercept R-015. Is there a way to create a STAR that stay X minutes in a TRK and then turn to intercept? Thanks,

Hi there. If I understand you correctly; When you press the HOLD button you have several options on how you enter the hld. The pic below is pretty selfexplaining. Just enter your desired values in the scratchpad and upselect them.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79844.jpgFor your second question I would have used the chronograph for correct measurement of the time. Otherwise you could measure the distance the aircraft will fly at your given speed in 2.5 min from a certain point, and create an Along Track Waypoint in the FMC. But I don't know how accurate this will be regarding time. The closest that come into my mind is the distance command when creating a procedure, TRK 32 UNTIL 5 FROM NAVAID ABC (or an user fix), and then define your new hdg. But this will be inaccurate for the time. However, when defining a holding pattern you have the option of using the command LEGTIME in a Sid/Star file.

Hmm ... I was talking about direct/parallel and teardrop entries. We don't have (from what I know) the other 2 ways to entry because it's rarely used and I don't really need it or it's a missing funcion in the FMC?Thanks for your help on the STAR issue too :)Thanks,

The FMC in PMDG cannot display procedure turns, but the real one can as far as I know. Many approach procedures contain both "racetracks" and "teardrops" as procedure turns. It is possible to make a workaround for this either by directly enter som custom fixes into the FMC or by writing them into the sid/star files. Take a look at these pics:(the first is not a complete racetrack , still.. )http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79858.jpgAnd then a teardrop..http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79859.jpgWhas it something like this you ment?

Hi again,As I read your drawing this is a procedure turn into a holding pattern. But it could also be teardrop procedure into a racetrack procedure. I have looked at your particular non-preceision approach, and to me I understand it as follows: You approach REC VOR, execute a racetrack procedure or a holding pattern at REC, and then outbound again on radial 32 in 2 min 30 sec, before you turn into final. You could fake it by inserting a holding pattern over REC since there is no descend in the racetrac/holding. Then one way round and then exit the hold. The outbound procedure (teardrop) can easily be made either in the sid/star file or by entering it into the FMC. Here you two pics of both, first one I did in the procedure file:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79889.jpgand then directly into the FMC:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/79890.jpgAlmost the same result. As you can see from the pics the outbound track on 032 will take approx 2-3 min. A further solution, and maybe the best is to use timing when you are on 032 leg outbound i LNAV. Then you can perform a "direct to" entry to the next wp in the FMC exactly after 2 min 30 sec. But watch your speed, it's easy to overrun here if you come in too fast. You can of course do this the old way too, fly the plane the old fashion way and use timing. I hope this didn't led to further confusion.
