Fuel pumps

Recommended Posts

Guest JamesA

Hi,In the PMDG checks and procedures I read that all fuel pumps should be switched on prior to APU (which is started right before engine start) and engine start. Now, I've read elsewhere that the left wing pump should be on before APU start (to feed the APU), and the other pumps are activated right before each engine start (so, when starting engine 2, only the aft and fwd pumps for engine 2 should be activated, and the same for engine one). What I'm trying to ask is should all of the pumps be on before starting anything, or should I activate them as each engine and the APU is started? Thanks. :)James A

Hi,I would guess you have information from two different operators about the engagement of fuel pumps. As a sidenote, you don't need any fuel pump engaged for the APU to start. There is a by-pass suction line from the left main tank to the APU and as its bigger brothers the APU has it's own fuel pump apart from the "booster" pumps in the tanks.Cheers,
