DAFIF being withdrawn - what now?

Recommended Posts

...... so we can use dated information I guess for a time - what about longer term? This will have implications for 737/747 as time goes on? ... or won't it?Probably a post for Mr Stefan!

Besides the fact that it's still almost a year before DAFIF becomes non-public, Stefan has already posted in the NAVDATA section that he's been working on an alternative for awhile now (he already knew about the upcoming change)

I'm baffeled by the DoD's actions. Myself being employed by the FAA, I can attest that international flight routing information is widely and freely available from a variety of sources (certainly not just from U.S. DoD Flips), and this fact has never been regarded as any kind of security risk whatsoever.I'm more inclined to believe that the DoD's new policy is governed more by political influences with commercial chart vendors' financial interests being the root cause, rather than airspace security.

Certainly that data is not gonna tell a terrorist where to set up with an RPG....seems stupidly pointless to withdraw this source of info for people like PMDG owners, not to mention the rest of the general public...

Precisely - I said that in another thread in the main forum about this. It has everything to do with getting Jeppessen more money and nothing to do with "protecting" anyone from terrorists. I can just see a guy in a cave in Pakistan trying to decipher the DAFIF file and if he got that far, actually do something with it... riiiight.

Having not read the original text, does this only concern US airspace? Will the european airspace still be up to date?
