Strange ticking noise in PMDG 737

Featured Replies

Hi guys,, I have installed today a new SB Live 5.1 Digital sound card. I run MS2004 and planned a flight with PMDG's 737-700. When the scenery loaded i noticed a strange continuous ticking noise that wasn't there before. This noise is gone as soon as i turn of the batteries and comes back as soons as i turn the on again. P.S . I don't head this noise in other FS airplanes. Do you know what can it be? Thank you.

Yup, it's normal. It's your altimeter. You don't hear it in the default airplanes because the sound package isn't as complex. There are tiny "brushes" inside the altimeter that vibrate and send altitude info to the IFF transponder for Mode-C/altitude reporting. The rest of the humming and buzzing is the sound of the 155VAC/3-phase/400Hz power. If you turn on the airconditioning gasper, you get a hissing sound (that I can't stand!).

It's even louder on the rl NG's cockpit. You can of course go to the in game menu PMDG/STYLES and set the sound to low etc. Also turn off your REC FAN on the overhead..PS- You need to read PMDG's forum rules regarding using one's name on their forum, thanks.
Randy J. Smith
Which name do you mean ?

Globemast. It's a requirement in this forum to sign with your actual (real) name in order to reduce the number of flame based posts. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=65744&page=Regards,Seb
