what mean "FIX"

HelloI never used this function before, and I would like to know what's it FIX on the FMC ?Thanks ! :)

Fix lets you insert a custom waypoint into the FMC which will then show up on the screen (and can be entered into your plan).You can of course enter it directly into the LEGS page as well using the station/radial/distance formula, bypassing the page.

Just to clarify a little, the FIX page will give you the possibility to enter a visual reference in relation to another valid waypoint in the database(fixes, navaids etc). This will be displayed as a green dotted circle on the ND. The reference point don't have to be a part of your flight plan, and will not be displayed in the LEGS page.This function is mainly used to get better situational awareness in a number of situiations, like minimum safe altitude guidance, guidance for a DME ARC (if not in database or self-created). If the reference point for the circle is in your flightplan, the FIX page will also display ETA, distance and calculated altitude when crossing.If you want to create custom waypoints or fixes to be used in the fligtplan, this has to to done on the LEGS page. The FIX page is only used for reference and guidance.

I did notice the fix getting copied to the scratchpad for easy insertion in the plan :)Handy feature.

>I did notice the fix getting copied to the scratchpad for>easy insertion in the plan :)>>Handy feature.the fix page can do a bunch of neat things...for example... enter a fix. then put in /10 in L2 3 or 4. this will draw a visible arc at 10 DME around the fix on the nav display. we often use this to diagram out class B airspace if we are going to fly underneath it or for arcs.another neat trick? you are going from point A to point C, direct. ATC asks you to advise "abeam point B" which is a fix between A and C but not directly in line with your flight path. you can enter fix B in the fix page, click the ABM prompt on the L4 (i think) key and then it drops ABM info into the scrathpad. then go to the LEGS page and click on the C fix and it will enter the abeam B fix in line with your direct route on the nav display and PROGS page. you can also use this to add wind info along a route of flight when you have wind data for nearby areas that aren't in your route of flight (ie. add them as abeam points then enter the wind for the abeam points.)fun stuff.
