CFS 3 - a lot blurry textures inside ?

Recommended Posts

Guest Claudius

If you take a look at the newest CF3 screenshot at the offiial page you see a lot blurry textures all over the place :( especially at the far distance and left of the planehttp://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs3/i...creens/ss10.jpgAs i thought this will be a step forward for an upcoming FS 2004 (?) i have to say this is very disappointing. Now i know these are some preview shots but why should MS show some bad screenshots to the public ?

"Now i know these are some preview shots but why should MS show some bad screenshots to the public ?"It is a fact thats the engine still comparable to cfs2,fs2k2, There is no hype at least, and this have nothing to do with beta stage, it is simply how the engine is created, 2 month left for working on this. How about the clouds Fs98 pixels cube "volumetric" thechnique, you will see this on all clouds, when you are near them.I hope I am wronghttp://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs3/img/screens/ss6.jpgThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg

By the way, anybody knows how to definitively get rid of the blurry textures in FS2002?I

I noticed the pixels in the clouds too as well as the aircraft detail and textures are miles off from IL2.It is still some way before release so maybe we will see improvements. When the previous CFS was in the making everyone said the same, that it was a window into FS2002 which ended up not being the case especially as far as flight models which were a big letdown.A combat flight sim has to be "very" framerate friendly which isnt quite as important in a GA sim so it could be that they are trading off with CFS3 ??Peter

Nothing is final so let's not make any assumptions.[TABLE BORDER=0][tr][td]

Hi Peter, The sky color is more impressive than clouds it self, the sky color just contrast the clouds better this is the reason why the cluods appears like thats( impossible in fs2k2), still the clouds can be ALOT better than those, they have improved some bugs from previous msfs on each clouds "rendering" one by one and the lightening engine t&l on clouds day, night, dusk, now you can saw those clouds at night like the real life, in fs2k2 at dusk they are almost appears like black clouds.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg

In fairness to the thread's author, the blurriness in the shots doesn't correspond to artifacts caused by compression. Compression artifacts manifest themselves more as banding, or small "splotches" of color. I believe that the pictures may be very typical of the final product (the core of which must be certainly written by now and unavailable for major changes), but I also believe that the same tweaks we use to improve FS2002's scenery will apply to CFS3. Check out my shots in the screenshots forum of the Cardinal RG which I posted on the 14th. If CFS3 were no better, I'd still be happy. As someone else noted, Combat sims rely on smooth and fluid framerates. Trying to display crystal clear textures to the horizon is a fairly good way of killing fluidity. MS must feel confident enough that the users of CFS3 care more about that, otherwise I don't think we's see such shots. I can't imagine a sim more fluid than either 2k2 or CFS2, and I imagine CFS3 will maintain that, perhaps at the expense of a few blurred pixels. For people into the genre, I don't think they'll mind that sacrifice.-John

Chris HiYes the sky colour is good shame we cant import it into FS2002 ;-)I agree the clouds are far better but could be better! I am wondering whether they are trading off the cloud quality for frame rates as happened in FS2002Peter

I agree. Notwithstanding sage input along the lines of "It's not final," and "We have to wait...," the screenshots released the other day are very disappointing.

"I am wondering whether they are trading off the cloud quality for frame rates as happened in FS2002"It could be or they simply can't do it right. I can do extreme high resolution clouds for fs2k2 but the you have a 7 fps hit :-erks , always some trade off.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg

If Microsoft follows the pattern they've set, FS2004 will be based on an all new engine.FS98 - improved engineFS2000 - new engineFS2002 - improved engineFS2004 - new engine (?)Unfortunatly, it seems with every new engine, it has some bugs and usually a performance issue like the FS2000 bad FPS.[TABLE BORDER=0][tr][td]

Normally they use Cfs engine to Msfs, cfs2 engine is fs2002 engine second generation. cfs3 engine should be fs2004 engine second generation.I Agree with JohnCi "very typical of the final product" This is how the Ms engine render the texture, alpha or late beta, this will be the same thing (it was the same with fs2k2, the terrain engine was never changed from the alpha, it was simply cfs2 engine it self.If just they can do it like Lomac or IL-2 ***********LOMA*************The water is pretty Nice!Official web site is here:http://www.lo-mac.com/screenshots.phpAnother Web Sitehttp://ham.dogfighter.com/flanker/index.htm http://www.lo-mac.com/ss/f16_dusk.jpgThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg
