Has The Talon served in Vietnam?

Recommended Posts

Guest

The other day i was watching "Apocalypse Now", and at a moment you can see what seems to be three Talons napalming the jungle. The same day, fsd released the talon for fs2002 as the U.S. favourite trainer. So, has this bird also served in Vietnam as an attack plane?Just a question.

The US never used the T-38 as a combat plane. The aircraft in the movie might have been Vietnamese F-5B Freedom Fighter aircraft. Those are externally similar to the T-38 and did serve during the war.

The Northrop T-38 and the Northrop F-5 are the same aircraft, and yes the F-5 served in Vietnam. The aircraft was first brought into service in 1963, and although its payload was limited, held its own with other comparable fighters in the SEA combat arena. By June 1967, Freedom Fighter missions were flown almost exclusively by the South Vietnamese Air Force.Regards,http://home.earthlink.net/~snyders2000/T2.jpg | [LINK:www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?emailsearch=jlsnyder@hdp.com]AIRLINERS.NET PHOTOS][/b

Small correction and note to the above. The "A" model cannot be armed, the "B" model has the capability. The T-38 was developed first - the focus was to build a trainer - and first delivered to the USAF in '61. The F-5 version (fighter) came out 4 years later.See ya,Kathy.Born to Fly.My Dad, Me, My Son.____________________http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d32decc3494b57c.jpg
