ATA 737-800 and KMDW...

Recommended Posts

The 737-800 can barely takeoff from KMDW. This is unrealistic concider the 800 flies out of that airport all the time. I have fuel on all takes down to 50% but the aircraft still has a problem getting airborn before almost running out of runway. Can anyone share some thoughts on this...Thanks...

I havent had a problem with it. Flew from MDW to DEN and got off the runway just fine. One problem I once encountered with an old throttle was that when I engaged TOGA the throttle would not go all the way to N1 unless I manually moved the throttle all the way forward. Make sure this isnt happening to you. Also check the PMDG loader and make sure you havent overloaded the aircraft and the proper trim is set.Thats all the advice I can give. I have flown out of MDW alot recently since the release of the airport 738/ 737.

Thanks Andrew, like I said above all my tanks are half full... It's not a weight issue. What's your flap and trim settings???

What runway are you trying to take off from? Try 31C or 13C.

You'd better be using flaps 10, 15, or even 25, depending on your weight and the temperature/pressure conditions. Why don't you share your load information, the temperature, pressure, and winds, and I'll run them through Tomaflex and get back to you with a performance report. On hot days of summer it's not unusual to find that an aircraft will be load limited.I needed flaps 25 to get out of LEX today in the -700 (admittedly with 140,000+ pounds of takeoff weight).Best wishes,

Thanks guys!!! I'm doing a little beta testing now for a well known developer but I will get back to you guys with some more info. It's interesting what Neeraj said about ZFW, I will diffidently look into this...

Neeraj it looks like your right. Station one on the 737-800 is set at 27400pds. I lowered that to around 19,400pds and got off the runway a little sooner (at a lighter weight this thing sure has a problem loosing speed on the landing approach). So I would guess a Change of 50% on the center fuel tanks (14,400pds) and changing the 'Payload' to around 15,400pds should get me off the runway nicely. Tim does that sound about right??? :-)

let me know your empty weight, payload of 15400 for passengers and bags/cargo, and then sounds like almost 31000 lbs of fuel (17,300 in the wings and 15000 in the belly). That's still kind of heavy - let me know your actual weights please and I'll run them through Tomaflex.

Thanks Tim...It states it's 91,300lbs...

Also check the FMC in the takeoff settings page for speed edit.Take off should not be derated to 49 degrees. As tmetzinger said flaps to 15 or even higher...Trim the beast to around 5.5, when at rwy stop the plane and hold the brakes. Spool up to 60% then the TO/GA switch, release brakes.Oh and pds is incorrect use lbs :-)Boaz...

My parents live 20 minutes from there :) Density altitude strikes again!I'd hate to see what the figures are for PVD-PHX on a 90 degree day off of a 7166' runway....

OK - it seems to me you don't quite understand all the factors here so we'll go through an example.I've set up a continental 737-800 at Midway. The basic empty weight of the airplane is 91,300 lbs - that's with no fuel, pax, or cargo, and is shown in the FS fuel and payload screen.Add passengers and cargo to that (36386) and you have a zero fuel weight of 127,686 lbs. Now, how much fuel do you need for your destination? I'm gonna fly to DC - so about 14000 lbs with alternate and reserve fuel.so total weight is right around 142,000 Lbs.Now the weather at Midway is KMDW 301853Z 24013G18KT 10SM FEW055 SCT085 BKN250 31/16 A2980 RMK AO2 SLP078 T03110161, so I should use runway 22L.Plugging that information into Tomaflex, I get:TAKEOFF REPORT (SINGLE CONDITION)Compiled by Tomaflex on 06-30-2005 /3:46:06 PMDatabases from Richard Stefan (www.navdata.at)A/C: Boeing PMDG 737-800 D/R: n/aPAX 113 /175 BAG 0.0 /25.0 CARGO 15.0 /43.4 PYLD 35.9 /44.8FUEL 14.3 /46.1 ZFW 127.4 /136.3 TOW 141.7 /173.3Departing from KMDW, Chicago Midway Intl /620WX COND /WINDS 240@13 /OAT 31 C /BARO 29.80SEL RWY 22L /6447 ----------------------------Flaps 1 /PTOW 132.1 /THR TOGA /V-SPDS 144_145_155 - O/WFlaps 5 /PTOW 141.8 /THR TOGA /V-SPDS 134_137_145Flaps 10 /PTOW 145.1 /THR RED37 /V-SPDS 131_132_143 <- SelFlaps 15 /PTOW 148.4 /THR RED40 /V-SPDS 123_124_136Flaps 25 /PTOW 151.7 /THR RED43 /V-SPDS 118_119_132A Flaps 5 takeoff would be just barely possible at this weight. Flaps 10 is better. Flying the takeoff with flaps 10 worked just fine. Now, if I were heavier, then more flaps would be needed. If you can give me all the data (empty weight, payload weight, fuel load, and the weather, I can tell you which runways and flap settings you'd need.
