New System sound

Recommended Posts

Guest

I recently upgraded to a P4 2ghz, Intel 850 motherboard, (400 bus), etc, etc, etc. The mobo has onboard sound. It works. I still have a SoundBlaster live card left over. Should I install it to relieve the mobo/processor of sound duties, and also, give the system a hardware sound buffer? Carl

I have a similar set up (Intel 845 board, 400 Mhz Bus) with a P4, 1.7, and am using the soundblaster Audigy in place of the onboard sound. The sound quality is better, but there was little, if any, noticeable advantage as far as system performance going to a dedicated sound card rather than the onboard card.
