question concerning Vref speed

Hi All,I'm excited to be a new PMDG 737NG owner. What a great product! Most of my flying theese last couple of years has been in the 727 with Richard Probst panel(another great one)imho. Now im ready to enter the world Cockpit Automation! :D I have a question concerning the Vref speed calculated by the FMC.Its calculated a flaps30 vref of 117kts. Thats with a ZFW of 83 from the "Load Manager" and entered into the FMC. When i'm established on a 3degree glide slope and at Vref+5 i find the pitch to be high(8.8 AOA). Is that right or am i doing something wrong?Thanks,Tom

ZFW 83k, that's about empty isn't it? Try loading the plane with some passengers and some bags, and report back if you are having tghe same issue.Jeff

Hey Jeff,Yup, she's was pretty light on that approach and operating whithin the reserves too. Next flight i'll make with 1/3 payload. I hope to do that tonight as i/m performing (1) short flight a nite while i learn the FMC/CDU. The PMDG 737ng is providing quite a learning curve which has tottaly renewed my excitment about MSFS!Thanks,Tom D.

Unfortunately I took too long to buy PMDG because I kept flying some other add-ons that had a lower entry price (those are awesome, but now becoming a bit dated). Did not make that mistake of waiting with the 744, and probably won't with MD-11 either. Bought it on Day 1 with all those server issues and multiple charges and everything. Thankfully the quick PMDG team refunded multiple charges from the same card on the same day for the same product.- Neeraj.

OK, reporting back.........I see now better pitch performance at heavier wieghts when on approach and at the reccomended Vref. Also i attribute some of the discrepencie to my technique. Up until now i think i've been performing my approaches a litle to "timidly". My impression now is that the real world practice is a little more agresive than what i previously thought was correct. But now i'm suspicous of my Flight Managment Computer. When it tells me "Drag Required"(when performing a cruise descent) I think its just trying to be polite. It SAYS "Drag Required" but what its REALLY thinking is "Yo Flaps and Gear B**CH........Put the Boards out!!!!!!!!":-lol Regards,Tom D.
