Why won't the FMC allow a runway change?

Featured Replies

Here's the problem:I programmed my 747-400 FMC to land at Runway 19 at Cape Town airport. About 80 miles out I changed from R19 to R01 as well as selecting the STAR for R01.After executing the change and closing the Discontinuity the Legs page showed that we were all set for Runway 01.HOWEVER, and this is what I don't understand, the Navigation Display retained the original purple track into my original choice of Runway 19.The only change on the display was a green line from the aircraft to the beginning of Runway 01.The plane continued to follow the purple track. Please................where am I going wrong?Cliff

Hello Cliff,If you take a look at the tread 'Upcoming 747-400 Version 1.03 Update!' thats pinned at the top of this forum, you'll find the following item in the list:29) ILS radio frequency now changes correctly reflect the selected ARR runway, even if changed during the approach/landing phase of flight.I'll guess this is the answer you were lookin for ;-) Ulf B

Ulf that's EXACTLY the answer I was hoping for. Not expecting but hoping.I confess to a slight reservation that the problem will be solved after the update as I'd manually entered the relevant new runway frequency into the FMC. And I can't understand why the original purple track remained. However you may well be absolutely correct and I'm looking forward to trying again when we're updated. Thanks for the information Ulf.Cliff
