How do I set the TA during descent

Recommended Posts

How do I set the TA (Transistion Altitude) during the descent phase of the flight ?I was flying a flight from EGLL (London Heathrow) to ELLX (Luxembourg) and out of EGLL I had set the TA to 5000 feet (as it should be). When I started the descent (from FL340) I set the TA to 6000 feet (as it should be for ELLX), however at some point during the flight (before I descented below 6000 feet) I noted that the first 2 pages of the VNAV mode on the FMC didn't allow me to see/change the TA anymore. Can anyone tell me how to change the TA during the descent?http://jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannerbeta.jpgPelle F. >How do I set the TA (Transistion Altitude) during the descent>phase of the flight ?>Push the FMC VNAV button, and go to the DESCENT page (page 3).Click on the LSK next to FORECAST>This will bring up a page where you may enter a number of parameters, including Transition Level (in the upper left). For what it's worth, the altitude where you set the altimeters to 29.92 (STD) on climb-out is referred to Transition ALTITUDE (TA), whereas the altitude where you go from 29.92 to current field pressure on descent is referred to as Transition LEVEL (TL) In the Queen's FMC, you may set TA using all digits of the actual altitude ie: 18000 for 18,000 feet. However, when setting TL on the VNAV descent page, you must enter the digits in Flight Level format only... ie: 180 for 18,000 feet, 50 for 5,000 feet etc.Jim BarrettSTV 1086UPS705BAW795
