descend now

hisorry if there is already a topic concerned with this question, I didn't find any so I'm asking it now and here.Well, when do pilots use the option "Descend now" in the FMC? I've tried it out already and was working fine but don't really understand it's sense.for which ATC commands is it used?kind regardsRobert

If you're told by ATC to decend before the T/D point on the ND. It puts the plane into a shallow descent until it intercepts the original VNAV path.
