Current weather radar images

Recommended Posts

Greetings All,I was just browsing around this morning, after deciding that I not longer liked all of the popups and slow loading that intelicast has elected to implement, I then went to NOAA and the US NWS and discovered these images. I am posting them here so you can see they update all by themself. I hope that is true because the image has "latest.gif" in its source. The following is just mumbling out loud. Now gauge designers, and XLM programers, why can't we make a gauge that will import this image directly into FS2002. Or make a seperate dll that will do the trick. It will work every where that NWS/NOAA provides maps for. Sorry world. Here is the CURRENT RADAR image for the New York Area. It should update often. Besure and use the "refresh" button so you get the current data from the site and not from your IExplorer cache.http://weather.noaa.gov/radar/images/DS.p3...kokx/latest.gifYou can find it at://weather.noaa.gov/radar/images/DS.p37cr/SI.kokx/latest.gifCut and paste the above and add the required http. If I included the http, you would just see another image and still not know the address. (FYI -Any image you want to know the source of can be found by a "right click" over the image when using IExplorer.Bob a.k.a RobeertThe CURRENT WEATHER at my home.http://www.crh.noaa.gov/radar/images/DS.p3...klot/latest.gif

It should be doable as a separate process, Maybe a child window in the FS window that could be resized. This would prevent FS from pausing if there is a delay in updating the image. One issue would be calibrating the image to the background. Ie converting the image coordinates to lat/lon values. Easy if the boundaries of the image remains the same. Difficult if image boundaries change with each update.Regards.Ernie.

Thanks Ernie for the comment. Just setting here making my "first" "gauge" in xml by "stealing/barrowing" a very simple xml gauge someone has uploaded. Have "discovered" that I can not use: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/radar/images/DS.p3...klot/latest.gif

I use the NOAA wx all teh time. Those plots update about 6 times an hour depending no the mode that the radar is running in. I usually get there through the adds website http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/Which has all kinds of cool stuff. Intellicast does have composites of teh products as well, and some of the pinpoint stuff is very good. I can usually live with the pop-ups, but they are getting much worse!Tim

I was thinking of the same thing one day when I got tired of having to leave the weather channel on while flying... I would like to see what becomes of this :)Jason
