Landing callouts disappear in 744....

Recommended Posts

I just did a landing at Haneda in the 744 and took off again on a hand flight after slewing to the departure runway. All went well on a low level sightseeing flight around Tokyo but on descent and approach, there were no GPWS callouts at all. Is this normal? Or did I fail to re-set something? Or must one be at some minimum altitude to trigger them for descent and app?Jonathan

"Or must one be at some minimum altitude to trigger them for descent and app?"Yes :)The system is designed to reduce nuisance repeat callouts (as you would get when flying over uneven surfaces).During go-around, the callouts are inhibited until the aircraft has reached a particular height/altitude. Note: There have been debates on what that height/altitude is... Some say it has to be above the first callout (e.g. 2500'AGL). Some say that the aircraft has to fly above a fixed altitude, e.g 4,500' (above the airfield).Cheers.Q>
