FSD Commander Questions....

Recommended Posts

Guest

I've recently purchased the FSD Commander thanks to some recommendations in this forum, and I've been really happy with it. It looks great, flies great ....Got a couple of questions:* I notice that the checklist shows airspeed at landing at 80-90 KIAS. I find that to be really fast, and I have a hard time putting it down at that speed without bouncing or ballooning out of the flare. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong, or should I just (as I have been doing) put her down at around 70 KIAS?* Has anyone done any new textures for the pilot? I have not been able to locate any.* What zoom level offers a good, realistic view from the cockpit? I have settled for about 65, but I would be curious what others are doing. Also, the view seems to be a bit higher in the seat than the default FS2k2 planes, so I haven't felt it necessary to shift the view up like I do when flying the Cessna.

1) The Commander 115TC is a very fast plane, requiring very high landing speeds (at least for a single engine aircraft). If you haven't already, put the gear down and flaps into LND and it should slow you down to about 80 KNTS. The Commander takes quite a while to get used to, I must say. It took me about four flights to get used to the higher landing speeds, but if you play with it a bunch, you get it right at that sweet spot. Generally I use about 75% on RPM and mixture, with about 80% on throttle levers for landing, and it gets me right into that suggested curve.2) Not that I know of3) I use .60 zoom on all aircraft I fly, it offers a good view of everything, and a fairly realistic view as well.Hope I've helped. And, again, just keep playing with mixture, RPM and throttle until you get it right.Scott

>* I notice that the checklist shows airspeed at landing at >80-90 KIAS. That is the normal approach speed and it's specified in file FSD_C115_check.txt as the "Approach speed". You will notice the short field approach speed is a much lower again at 75 Kts, which provides for a narrower margin above the stall. >Any advice on what I might be >doing wrong, or should I just >(as I have been doing) put her >down at around 70 KIAS? Just confusing approach and touch-down speeds, that's all. 65-70 Kts is about right.
