flare height

hi, do anyone knows how to decide at what height should the pilot pull the power to idle and flare the aircraft..PMDG 744 manual said power idla at 50ft RA and start to pitch the nose up at 30ft RA..But when I looked at ITVV VS, the pilot simply did everything at once at 10ft RA....For myself, I tried both. Power off at 10, no way, either the 744 is floating too long and touching down beyond the landing zone, or the 744 is "ballooning". On the another hand, the aircraft seems to land hardly when power off at 50.Ben

I'm not sure how it's done in reality, but i usually start around 10-20ft. I kind of feel my way through it, it works every time.

Remember that in real life you have small turbulent eddies and many other factor that influence speed. Maybe in ITVV the Vapp was a bit low and the captain decided to keep the power on until landing. Other than that, many crews have many diffrent techniques. But what is published works best for all scenarios. Feel your way through it and soon there won't be one you can't grease on........Xander
