What does the MD-11 use for navigation modes? I presume LNAV and VNAV are Boeing only systems

Yes, awesome ... if you have the attention span of a goldfish :( Unfortunately he's an editor, not a videographer. He cuts so fast you can't take anything in. Not every subject is suitable for MTV style editing. Horrible choice of music too.On his website he talks about the special approach and landing at Quito. Of course he got to enjoy it in real time. We can only view it as a slideshow in his video. All I can say is what a waste of a terrific opportunity.Kevin

Well, to each his own. I thought it was not bad for a showcase style video. The amature video look and feel is in these days. I did not take it as a procedure type training video.I also thought they did show the special handeling procedures at QUITO, you can clearly hear the transmissions for the approach instructions and view the charts they are using. Maybe I'm wrong.Maybe he has the raw footage. Why not try and contact him? It looks like they were using at least a 3ccd mini-DV to me.

The style maybe "in" but it doesn't make it any better. (The rapid cut video style is great for pop video, but not much else, and if you want the amateur video look, hire an amateur.)In the Quito approach there's an awful lot of totally unnecessary cutting, with shots used apparently out of sequence. Yes you see the chart, but you don't really see the approach in any detail, just a series of random views of the Andes, though the landing is shown almost complete. There you are flying round Quito, EGPWS terrain on view in brief flashes on the ND, only quick views of the mountains. No way to get a proper sense of the flight. Yet it has the makings of a really good aviation clip. It's not about being a training video. Most, if not all, people on avsim.com will be aviation enthusiasts. The kind of video most appreciated would show more complete, less edited footage. Obviously editing has to be done, but should not be distracting.I didn't comment with the quality of the footage. It is incredibly hard to record anything viewable on a flightdeck (I know, I've tried it a couple of times). The images are OK in fact.I'm sure the video suits the maker's purpose, if he's trying to show off his editing skills, but it isn't great inflight material. Certainly not the best available on a MD11, KLM or otherwise.Kevin

Okie dokie then. I'm not gonna nit pick this video. It is what is is. It's not gonna win an award, but it made me want to download an approach plate for that airport. If you wanna make one then email him and ask him if he can send you his raw footage.I gotta bunch of raw footage myself if you want some.
