Round the World-FINAL PIREP

Actually, there *are* some more things. After the challenge was over and I calmed down from flying that $#%@@ F16 for 1 1/2 hours as an escort, I remembered that Linksys does provide very explicit instructions on how to configure the router for exactly this kind of thing.I remember that when I bought the router (a year or so ago) I came across that section and thought "Hmmmph, gaming instructions" and didn't even look through it. After all, *I* don't *play* any PC games. LOL. Oh well, I need to go back and check it for directions, but someone will have to volunteer to help me test out MP sometime PRIOR to the next big MP event.

Yahooooooo! (Not an ad).I finally show up somewhere (although the F16 has somehow changed into a Lear Jet -- well, I knew it was a stealth fighter, but I didn't realize it had camoflage capabilities). It makes it all worthwhile...

Thanks, guys. I *will* take you both up on it (it will have to be some weekend, though. My wife is already grumbling about the long flight I made yesterday -- "I thought you were in a jet! Can't you get there faster?" Actually, she's sweet and wonderful and I adore her, but as with most significant others of the female persuasion, she always wants to be the focus of my life. But I understand).

Mike...I'm game as well for a test or two of MP flight. I managed to get my router to "allow" me to hook up to the MSN Gaming Zone last night so I guess I'm doing something right. Now the thing to see is if I've enabled enough ports for a MP session with another person works or not. From the "I know what you mean" department... My wife also does the "roll the eyes" look whenever I check to see if it's alright for me to sit in front of my PC and fly... or as she calls it, "sit there and stare at the screen." ;-)Hawkeyez :-kewl

Thanks, I'll take you up on it as well (maybe we get get all four of us together on some weekend). I don't mean to sound corny (and maybe I'm just feeling my age) but it really does kind of tug at my heart to feel the comradery (sp?) I get around here. Danny really went above and beyond the call of duty to try and get me working prior to the flight, and Fred was a lifesaver as my ATC (and he was flying the baton at the same time!).>From the "I know what you mean" department... My wife also >does the "roll the eyes" look whenever I check to see if >it's alright for me to sit in front of my PC and fly... or >as she calls it, "sit there and stare at the screen." ;-) Yep. We need to balance things out -- obviously wife/family takes precedence (as I think you mentioned earlier). OTOH, we're not spending the night out in a bar somewhere, either.I need to get my wife up to the conference if possible, though, and let her know there are other "grownups" who actually do this. Unlike my passion for televised sports (where she is well aware of other men who are even more passionate) my love for flight simulation is a little suspect, as if in her heart of hearts she believes the only other people who engage in this sort of thing are either still in school or resemble the Lone Gunmen from the X-Files. I want her to know there are really adults, people she might even admire, who participate as well. We'll see.

Well, she probably wouldn't be surprised at me. Single guy, what else is there to do??? ;-)Other than real flight lessons and photography and work what else is there??? LOL! ;-) I guess i'm keeping myself busy ;-)I usually host games and can provide an IP address when I do, not sure where though? ;-) I guess by posting here? I don't like to post games in the zone as I get a bunch of morons (for lack of better terminology) in the game ;-)

Take a look at this, Fred is clearly seen carrying the baton in an F16 ;-)The suspense goes on.......(Virtual prizes will be awarded shortly, if you wish to vote for the best PIREP or best Screenshot, this is your last chance. You have one hour to go)Aviator@thehold.freeserve.co.uk

Maybe that was just my stealth fighter you were seeing! So is that what FS does in an MP flight -- substitute whatever you're flying for any aircraft it doesn't recognize? Fred saw ME as another 421 (I believe), which is the custom he was flying. I actually never got close enough to see his plane (well, I flew past it at about 200ft and 400 knots but I was just trying not to crash and couldn't appreciate what was happening :>) in the air, but on the ground it did indeed look like another F16.If Fred had had my F16 as an aircraft in his folder list would he have seen my jet, or does it have to be in the AI for FS to recognize it?

Yeah, that's the nature of the beast in MP games. The only way you will see another players aircraft (other than default) is if you have the same aircraft and the same texture as that player. The best solution to this problem, obviously is to find other's with the same planes. A more realistic solution is for all players flying with something other than default planes is to at least switch to a default plane that is similar to the plane you intent on flying that way other players who do not have your particular plane will at least see something similar.
