Hi, I think there is nothing you need to activate in landing phase, as long as you autothottle is controling your power before landing,. ie if you are flying the 744 with the full autopilot system activated after T/O and leave it on, then you don't need to activate anything related to the A/T system... I suggest you read the manual, follow the procedure and practice for several times, then you will have no problem at all...remember, flying requires a lot of reading...ben

hi, for ILS, LNAV and VNAV should not be activiated... for non precision approach, LNAV and VNAV may probably be activated but you have to disengage the autopilot in a certain height and hand fly the landing...ben

Basically you need two or 3 A/P's engaged for the autothrottle to operate properly for landing. The thrust levers will not come back to idle if you don't do this (and the aircraft won't flare).Make sure that your joystick throttle is not interfering with the idle command. If your joystick throttle is not already pulled back during descent, pull it back during flare.Hope this helps.CHeers.Q>

Switch flipped up and SPD mode selected. You should be controlling your speed through the MCP, gradually reducing your airspeed to "Vref + 5kts" as you extend the flaps.Cheers.Q>
