Great! The "old" Ozark airlines (pre TWA) had TWO 727 in the fleet. The Ozark hub was St. Louis where Mike lives and Mike fly on the DC-9s often. Make a gift for us that Mike will probably enjoy as well. ;-) Cheating - probably ;-)http://hobby-city.com/aviation/imageprod/gj194.jpgTelling the whole story ...From ... http://eldoradotoys.com/gemjetoz72.htmlIn 1978, Ozark broke its Douglas tradition and ordered two 727-2D4(A)s from Boeing. They were to be used on planned routes to the west coast and high density markets to the Northeast and Florida which required better range and loads than the DC-9-30. Ozark however changed its mind after the announcement of the DC-9-30(LR) which provided the range needed and allowed commonality within its fleet. The 727s were never operated in revenue service, both having been sold to Pan Am upon delivery to Ozark. The two aircraft, N720ZK and N721ZK, were both painted in Ozark's final color scheme before delivery. The model shown is of N720ZK, which is only known to be photographed twice.BobThe CURRENT WEATHER at my home. (12.9 Miles ESE of KPIA)http://www.crh.noaa.gov/radar/images/DS.p3...klot/latest.gif

AAARRRGGHHHH! I can't believe I missed this thread. I grew up flying these birds in Spain... Iberia airlines had a HUGE fleet of 727's before they started replacing them with Airbuses. 727's were the staple of all the national and near international flights, including the famous Madrid-Barcelona shuttle on which the 727 was used exclusively.Just this past December when I went to Spain to visit the family, I saw the remnants of the 727 fleet at Madrid. It was really sad... on the North end of Barajas, in the "plane yard" you could see about 8-12 727's just sitting there, gathering dust. They had SO many. :-(There are 8 pages worth of Iberia 727 shots at airliners.net, so it's kinda hard just to pick one.http://www.airliners.net/open.file/047632/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/032703/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/051067/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/087619/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/068068/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/115004/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/093418/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/138722/L/In the pre 1970's livery... check out the beatiful chrome on the underside!http://www.airliners.net/open.file/139561/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/054692/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/101594/L/Iberia was THE biggest operator of 727's in all of Europe, and was one of the last airlines to finally stop using them because of the noise regulations. They bought the planes when they first came out, and stuck with them to the very end! Over 30 years of service for Iberia with their 727's! For me, the 727 is as associated with Iberia and Spain as much as Flamenco and sunny beaches!
