HELP HELP FS CRASH !!!

Could someone help me please, as my FS2002 is crashing since a week and no one (in Compaq, XP or Creative labs) seems to know about my problem.I run FS2002 on a Pentium 4, on Windows XP, with 516mb memory, using a Creative TI4400 graphic card. Until last week, everything went smooth and perfect.Then I purchased a Sound Blaster Platinum EX audio card, installed it and imported the latest drivers from the Creative site, and, since them my problems started......FS2002 doent stop to crash with always the same error message APPNAME FS2002EXE.....and relating to two files: FS2002DW.CFG and DXDIAG.TXT.I am not an IT specialist, but looking at the files involved and the time when those things happened, I got the impression that it has something to do with the way FS reads the audio paths....Could someone urgently help me, as I am facing this since more than a week, and, even after complete desinstallation (incl XP) and a new installation, the problems remain.....Many thanks in advancePatrick Jorand Geneva/Switzerland

The Soundblaster is likely the root of the problem. Try this fix though and see if it helps: Go to Control Panel (Classic View), Sounds and Audio Devices, the Audio Tab, in the Sound Playback section click Advanced, Click the Performance Tab and reduce your hardware acceleration to about 50% and Apply. You won't notice any difference in sound quality - but it will likely fix your FS crashes.

Many thanks for your advice. Will try tonight. Just a question, reducing the hardware acceleration won't have an impact on graphic quality and framerates ?Patrick Geneva

Delete FS2002.cfg in your main FS2K2 folder and restart FS2K2. You may have to do this a couple of times. I did and the crashes stopped on my system. "FS2002DW.cfg" is just a backup of FS2002.cfg and has absolutely nothing to do with FS2K2 operations. I deleted the file from my system. "DXDIAG.TXT" is just the results of a diagnosis of DirectX that you saved when running dxdiag.exe. Does the text file show any problems with any sound/video drivers? If so, you'll need to reinstall affected sound/video drivers and/or update them.Jim

Patrick - No, it won't affect the graphics. What Travis has recommended is a change to the audio hardware acceleration, not the video acceleration. If turning down the acceleration doesn't completely fix the problem you can try completely disabling it and FS2002 will still run fine (maybe even better :-) ).Trip

Jim,Many thanks for taking some time for my problem.I followed your advice and it still did not work during the weekend as the problem was apparently elsewhere.Seem to have found an apparent solution however(or the start of a solution...)After going back from scratch yesterday night(and desesperate....), reinstalling XP for the 3rd time.....with only the original PC memory (256MB), (I forgot to say that I have added recently a 256MB additional memory chip aside the already existing one (total 512), my FS worked fine again with both the graphic and sound card installed. It seems that the additional memory was the cause of the problem as not working properly with both the graphic and sound card. Might be a problem of tolerance to heating when games like FS2002 are loaded. Pending a solution, at least I can fly again....with bad framerates....but fly.....Hope to find an additional memory chip that can work properly with this configuration.Thanks again for your comments,Patrick
