PMDG 747 Help

Hi fellas! Just purchased PMDG 747 a week ago. Im so used to the default MS ATC stuff. But get me straight, when setting up flights on the PMDG do i still have to go to were i have to choose a destination were on MSFS you go to check weather your flying VOR or ILS? EX: When i open up FS2004, create flight do i just select a departure aiport? and do i have to set up a destination airport as well?And once in the game if i just set a departure airport with out a destination airport do i stil follow ATC intructions? Like when everything is set do i choose Departure straight out? North, East, West???These are th stuff i get confused. If someone could help me out like what to do when you open up FS. Dumb stuff but im a new to this. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The default FS9 ATC works only with a .pln loaded, or one created with the fligth planner. The PMDG FMC doesn't use the FS9 plan, only what is loaded in the FMC. The FS9 ATC doesn't know anything about departure or arrival procedures (SIDSTARS), which is a lack of reality from the guys who advertise "as real as it gets".What you do depends on your desired level of reality. You can keep it simple and just fly the FS9 flight plan duplicated in the FMC, or you can go without the default ATC and load a realistic flightplan with departures, STARS and approaches but not with default ATC.Alternatives to the default ATC include VATSIM or Radar Contact, etc. Many find these add sufficiently to the sim experience. However, in my own opinion I have not found a realistic ATC simulator yet but I have more hours in my logbook than in front of the computer so don't let me dissuade you from trying something besides the default FS9. There is a lot going for Radar Contact.
