MD-11 Feature Request

Recommended Posts

Guest

One thing I'd like to see in the MD-11 and of course future products to to be able to export a PMDG flight plan to FS9/FSX format so it can be loaded into sim's flight plan thing for ATC. I know a lot of people use FSBuild to export both formats simultaneously but I dont use FSBuild and itd be easier this way. Currently I have to input the plan into the FMC with proper departure/approach procedures and then I have to manually do it in FSNav and export it to FS format. This would save me a bit of time.

Yeah something like this would be nice to see and would save a lot of time when setting up a flight if you don't have FSB or FSNav.

>Why not just do it in FSNav then export to both FS and PMDG?>That way you only do it once.Because FSNav doesn't have SIDS/STARS and such. Also, I find it a lot easier to input the flight plan into the FMC from flightaware then to go around in FSNav hunting for intersections and so on and so forth.

Actually, FSNAV does have terminal procedures- but I don't use them. Just load a route using FSNAV, the select the specific terminal procedure you want using the DEP ARR page.

Currently we do have compatibility the other way round:You can load into the MD-11 any FS format flight plan. This way you will have available from day 1 all flight plans you have created with FS, or exported from other utilities into FS format. An nice feature of the MD-11 MCDU is that when you enter an origin/destination pair of airport codes, the company database (in the real thing - in our case the folders on your hard disk that contain flight plans) is searched and you are presented with a summary (a VIA-TO list) of all flight plans found that match the entered origin/destination, and you can select the one you want. Now, to answer your original request:Exporting PMDG format flight plans to FS format will have a problem with SIDs, STARs, Missed Approaches etc. You can't just export the SIDs and STARs parts as a series of waypoints because some of these waypoints don't even have lat/lon coordinates (floating waypoints as in "at 1000ft turn left to intercept radial..."). So the only way this could work is by leaving out the SIDs, STARs and Missed Approach parts and export only the enroute part of the flight plan. This is something that we might consider.

WOW! I wasn't aware of that. Pretty interesting and that will come in PLENTY handy I can already see. Thanks for the info Michael.
