747-400F Range Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi I am having a range problem with the 747-400fI am trying to fly from KMEM to EDDF using the Atlas Air 747-400F with a distance of 4,125 miles and a inital flt level of 30,000now according to the specs of the plane the max fully loaded rangeof the aircraft is 4,450 nautical miles I have a ZFW of 632816 and full full of 242184 = 875,000and i know i can add 2000 extra pounds of fuel to still fall within safe limits for take off according to the manual speaking of the manual how much of a differance between the pax and the cargo version of the manual?i programed the fmc with the following flight plan which was FDX 38route on Decmeber 7th 2006J42 KONGO J145 HVQ J78 PSB J49 BGR J581 YJT CYMON DENDU (cross the atlantic) LIMRI UN523 DOLIP UN523 CRK UL607 SPI UT180 DITEL T180 OSMAX OSMAX1Wput in a reserve of 42.o and a cost index of 0and it said "insufficant fuel"is there something i am doing wrongany help would be greatthanks

>Hi>>>put in a reserve of 42.o and a cost index of 0>and it said "insufficant fuel">>is there something i am doing wrong>any help would be great>>thanks>>Check the progress page of the FMC. Does it show you landing at your destination with less than 42,000lbs of fuel? If so, it's triggering your reserve alarm. Why are you choosing such a high reserve?- John

Hi Nameless,Yes, 42,000 is an awful lot of fuel for reserve, unless all of ED land is under some sort of bad weather and you are planning to divert to Dubai. I would also suggest that you set you initial altitude to a correct "East" bound altitude, either FL290 or FL310, that's a pretty busy cooridor from HVQ toward BGR, you will probably run into someone going the opposite direction at your altitude. One last thing, a cost index of "zero" is the most fuel efficient setting. Remember, you are not paying for the fuel and the freight business is booming right now, up it to at least 100. I fly the 744F over 6000 mile west, into the wind all the time with no range issues. Just remember to follow those step climbs. She get's light and up high and hardly burn any fuel at all.....Steve Park

Hi PhilI just bought the FOC 2003 flight planner. Great program, but a steep learning curve. I see that you have a LBS PMDG profile for the 747. Did you make this yourself? The one on the Danur website is metric. Any chance you'd be willing to share any of your PMDG 747 profiles that are in LBS?Dustin

Hi,1. I'm not sure that cargo operators fancy flying at CI 100, as it uses less than efficient settings. It would make sense when chasing the next scheduled departure. 2. Not a good idea to suggest increasing CI for someone short on fuel flying favorable tailwind.>Hi Nameless,>>Yes, 42,000 is an awful lot of fuel for reserve, unless all of>ED land is under some sort of bad weather and you are planning>to divert to Dubai. seems it cant ???!!!but again you can reduce fuel load and take more payload in exchange but only in sim in real ops no way to do this ..maybe that s why boeing made the ERF ??!!see you>thanks for all your help>i will try this tonight >so i am i correct to assume that the 747-400F cannot reach>4,000 miles fully loaded from east to west?>and has to take a payload penelty?>>>a3ifs40>>
