744 Long Range Cruise Query

The LRC setting on the on VNAV cruise page never seems to produce a better fuel burn than the ECON setting. The fuel remaining figure always reduces from the ECON figure too. Why is this ?David MilesAirbus

In real life, the faster you fly, the more parasitic drag is produced over the skin of the aircraft. If you were to slow the aircraft down slightly (as in LRC mode), you could conserve a considerable amount of fuel by reducing drag, without compromising mission flight time.However, I don't think parasitic drag is effectively or correctly modelled in FS. Because of this, LRC becomes purely a "mathmatic" funtion: Slower flight speed = airborne longer = higher fuel consumption.Stick to ECON.
