Unable to enter VHHX as dest airport into FMC with 0613 AIRAC

Recommended Posts

In the past, with older AIRAC cycles for PMDG Aircraft, I was able to enter VHHX (KaiTak) as the destination airport in the FMC. I had also added the VHHX SIDSTARS and was able to select them in the FMC and fly in and out of there. With the new AIRAC 0613 cycle, and wanting to fly to VHHX (KaiTak) I was unable to enter VHHX or VHXX as the destination airport. It was not until I removed the new 0613 AIRAC cycle from the FMCWP folder in the FS9 directory and replaced it with the 0608 AIRAC instead then I could once again select VHHX. I would like to know if it is possible to somehow correct this without removing, replacing AIRAC's. I do appreciate the new AIRAC's with the updated waypoints, etc.. But I still like flying into VHHX (Kai Tak) I also posted at the Navdata forum:http://forum.navdata.at/viewtopic.php?t=454Thanks, Ken

You are right to let Richard Stefan that he is missing VHHX, I just checked 0613 airac data and didn't find it either. Note that you need both a sidstar file for VHHX (/PMDG/SIDSTARS/VHHX.txt) and it needs to be in the airac data. There is a workaround, since you seem to have it in the 0608 airac data (I don't have that to check). If you open the wpNavAPT.txt file from the 0608 data and do a search for VHHX, you should find one line for each runway at the airport.... simply copy/paste those entries into the current data file (not overwriting anything). It doesn't matter where, they seem to be in latlon order, and you'll have to redo this each cycle but that ought to get you going.Hope this helps.

Dan, when you say: "simply copy/paste those entries into the current data file (not overwriting anything)." Would I paste those entries directly into the FS9/FMCWP/NAVDATA folder? Thanks,Ken

Copy the entries for VHHX from wpNavAPT.txt old cycle to new cycle wpNavAPT.txt file in the FS9/FMCWP/NAVDATA folder. Any text editor will work. There is no VHHX in new cycle, so just insert the entries without overwriting anything. There should be an entry for each runway number. I've modified these files several times and the only real hazard is the information is column sensitive - all columns line up and spaces are used for white space not tabs. Hope this answers your question.

Dan, For some reason I was still unable to select VHHX as DEST airport after transfering the VHHX entries. This is how the appear in the WpNavAPT.txt:HONG KONG VHHH07L12468073 22.310917 113.897967111.1007300022HONG KONG VHHH07R12468073 22.296675 113.899444109.3007300028HONG KONG VHHH25L12468253 22.307431 113.932822108.9025300027HONG KONG VHHH25R12468253 22.321122 113.929639110.9025300023Hong Kong Intl (old) VHHX31 10930316 22.304401 114.216064000.0031600000Hong Kong Intl (old) VHHX13 10930136 22.324850 114.193176000.0013600000VADODARA VABO04 08100045 22.329583 73.218611000.0004500122VADODARA VABO22 08100225 22.344028 73.234639110.5022500123Any ideas,Ken

The airac files are text, allowing easy edit, but the information must be in the correct column to be useable. Try this:HONG KONG VHHH07L12468073 22.310917 113.897967111.1007300022HONG KONG VHHH07R12468073 22.296675 113.899444109.3007300028HONG KONG VHHH25L12468253 22.307431 113.932822108.9025300027HONG KONG VHHH25R12468253 22.321122 113.929639110.9025300023Hong Kong VHHX31 10930316 22.304401 114.216064000.0031600000Hong Kong VHHX13 10930136 22.324850 114.193176000.0013600000When you paste the information from the old cycle into the new cycle ensure that it is an exact copy.. don't add comments or extra character that would shift the information into different columns. The FMC scans the file looking for VHHX in a specific location, then extracts the runway length, mag heading, latlon, ils freq (I see that there are none for VHHX 13/31) and final approach course.

Let's try something else. Please mail me a copy of your wpNavAPT.txt file (from /FMCWP/NAVDATA) and your VHHX.txt sidstar file (from /PMDG/SIDSTARS) to downscc@swbell.netIt might be quicker to troubleshoot in this manner.

Bump Fix Anyone??

The fix ended up using space char for white space.. not tabs. The FMC doesn't expand tabs when interpreting the navdata and column position is important. Hope this helps.
