How to Intercept Radials?

Recommended Posts

Hi ThereIm wondering if there's a way to intercept radials on departure (eg in the FMC)? For example, out of Kai Tak the departure instructions given by the departure frequency was sometimes:'[Callsign] turn right heading 180, intercept the CH Radial 132 Outbound'How can i input this into the FMC?Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Someone smarter than I may come up with it, but I don't think you can because you are dealing with a floating waypoint at your turn to the 180 heading. I'd manually tune the navaid/course and use the MCP HDG to intercept the LOC (assuming CH is a VOR).It's not hard to modify the sidstar file such that the route is encoded for the FMC.. a statement such as TRK 180 INTERCEPT RADIAL 132 FROM NAVAID CH is all that is needed.

I don't know if i am right, but you could try this :* Make sure CH is the first waypoint in the LEGs page.* Double click on LSK1* Now on LSK6 you can enter the course you have to intercept : enter 132* Execute : now you have an intercept course on your ND* Depart but do NOT engage LNAV.* Once airborne and turned (and established) on Hdg 180, arm LNAVWhen approaching the intercept course, LNAV will become active and should intercept the 132 course outbound CHWell, i wrote this without my Sim active, so if i am wrong please don't shoot me :(

^That's correct. You have to use the FMC's INTC CRS function, the 744 cannot track VORs in LOC mode the way the NG can.
