United KIAD - ZBAA

Recommended Posts

Hi - I am planning on flying United's "Capital 1" (I believe it's called) route, from KIAD (DC) to ZBAA (Beijing). I used FS Build to create a flight plan but I was wondering if there is a way to figure out the route United uses so I can replicate it. Any ideas would be appreciated!!! Richard

I doubt that they use a fixed route considering that winds change from day to day.Karsten.

Hi Karsten - you just taught me something new. I didn't realize airlines changed routes, i knew they sometimes deviate due to weather etc.. But it does make sense that thee would change the routes to take advantage of the winds.Richard

The most obvious changes are on flights across the Atlantic and Pacific were daily routes available to cross for weather and winds are announced. If you use FSBuild you can account for that since the programm can plot the routes in effect. In the case of this specific route however you won't need them, since you'll get a polar route and there are no tracks to follow there. One word of advice though. If you fly this in FS9 you might encounter problems if you come to close to the pole.Karsten

A safe ending, but I can just imagine the passenger chaos at Dulles right now.May 25, 2007 - 2:32pmWASHINGTON - A passenger jet on its way to Beijing returned to Dulles Airport after reports of flames coming out of an engine at takeoff. United Airlines flight 897 had an engine flame-out, soon after it took off at 12:55 p.m. The 747 has four engines, and can fly safely with three, but the decision was made to bring the plane back, rather than send it across the ocean. The plane dumped fuel before it landed safely. United says flight 897 had 330 passengers and 19 crew onboard. The airline's working with passengers at Dulles to help them eventually get to Beijing. You forgot to include that the plane was a "Airbus 747-600", plus the usual passenger quotes "This is the worst experience I've ever had", "...and then there was a loud noise coming from one of the motors", and "I will never fly this airline again!" :-lolSubin>>WASHINGTON - A passenger jet on its way to Beijing returned to>Dulles Airport after reports of flames coming out of an engine>at takeoff.
