747X out of memoery error

I'd second the suggestion to bite-the-bullet and go to 64bit Vista. This is a "Pay me now, or pay me later" proposition. We will All have to get there eventually. However going there now Will Solve that goofy OOM problem . . . and it will solve the problem permanently.I've been running Vista 64 all along (and now through SP1). It's been running FSX / PMDG / nHanser / Rivatuner, with a Q6600@3.6, 4gigs-O-ram @900, an 8800GT@710 driving a 42"+ 2/19"s, over a wireless network of 3 separate machines, (generally) daily. In other words, if there were weak (consumer) links in this 64bit system, I'd be seeing 'em. Over the last year I've noticed almost all drivers and programs are offered in 64bit versions. It's not the wild west anymore and ready for prime time. Swapping over to a 64bit system really is the solution.

32bit VISTA with SP1 now can display 4GB RAM, but just like others said, you can only use up to 3GB. When flying PMDG744X, try not to use other software together, especially thoes who takes so much RAM and CPU useage. In my experences, playing a 720P movie while flying 744X can cause "out of memory" issue. Regards,Yufeng(James) QI

>What is going on?? How shall I correct this??>I think video card driver may be one of the reasons cause this problem. Change video card driver may work. I also have this problem before, only in North America, but after I install Ground Enviornment X it never happened again(I set my autogen to sparse or normal). I think this probobaly caused by autogen, the GEX optimize the autogen so I never meet this problem again. I think maybe you can try some other autogen optimize tool, I know there are a lot of free tools for FSX, also you can change the fsx.cfg file, autogen session yourself, but please make sure you backup first. regardsJames QI

>>the 32 bit Vista from Dell does use the>>full 4gb they somehow patch it to make it work ...>>That's total BS, it's a fundamental limit of a 32bit operating>system, it's literally impossible for the system to address>4GB. It may show the 4GB as being installed in system>properties or something, but I guarantee it's not actually>using it.>Now im getting P**sed off with Dell ...Why would they sell me a machine with 4 gb RAM if I cant even use the last 1 gb ???They reckon they dont like to use the Vista 64bit due to problems with lots of software compatabilities ?This part could be true as I know of a few pieces of software that dont run on 64 bit ...They keep teling me of this patch for Vista 32bit.Im gonna email Dell support and sating the same and get them to give me the reply personnaly ...Will come back with the reply ...But most anoyingly this dont resolve my problem of not bring able to fly the PMDG 744 ;o( Edit : Whoops, forgot to sign it again ...Gary B.

>Jim, >I have the same problems Gray has. I followed up your>recommendations Entered into *elevated command prompt:>BCDEDIT /set increaseuserva 2560. Successfully accepted.>I made the same flight. I got the same results. OOM>>Regards>SanalAs stated there is more than just doing this to get it done. The FSX.exe needs to be LARGEADDRESSAWARE. If it is not then it will still suffer the same issue. FSX SP2/Acceleration has this already done to it but the RTM and SP1 needs to be done by the user using a seperate program. Also there is a patch as mentioned by Phil Taylor in his blog that is absolutely required by FSX to stop double buffering of graphics and running out of resources when it should not. This hotfix is not installed by the normal windows update and needs to be done manually. Vista 32 bit SP1 allows the full amount of memory to be presented when you right click on My Computer/Properties. Previously this wasn't the case. However the 32 bit address limitations still apply which means it cant use it all.

Guys,I too have the Dell XPS 420 with 4GB memeory but with nVidia 8600 GTS (driver 169.25) and the PMDG 747-400X runs very well. It has to be something with your specific configuration.......how video driver was installed, order of software installation, something along these lines. I too have a 2.5 GB address space AND run (not just install) PMDG with Administrator privileges. One other thing I had done that could be significant was to install FSX, SP1 and SP2 as consecutive steps, and had established a performance baseline with the default FSX aircraft prior to even installing PMDG. This incremental approach to building the platform made me more of tech support specialist rather a pilot initially but after this initial investment in time, I am now a full time pilot. Also, my system is up-to-date with respect to Vista maintenance (except Vista SP1). One other recommendation....check to make sure you are running BIOS A03. This was identified as a highly recommended upgrade by Dell.Zach

After I implemented many of your advises. I made a test flight from Atlanta to Boston. I was very excited, during the take=off. I didn't got ant "Out of memory " warning or sudden lost of FPS. I was averaging 15 FPS. Flight went well until when I reached Boston. PMDG-747X was performing well. I tried to switch to "Map". Suddenly screen went black. I can hear behind the black screen, plane was keep flying , screen changes, black screen covers the 747 screens. There were no "Crash to Desktop". At the end I shut down the FSX.I am out of any option. Here are my to questions:1-Will I go and to start beginning and Restore the Windows Vista and reinstall the CD- DEl Operating sysrem ?2- Will I download FSX,PMDG-747, Fs2Crew and GEX to only one hard drive not OS C:Thanks to all of you trying to find solution with my problem.Sanal
