Unconfirmed theory! Vista & 747-400X low framerate in maximized window...

Ever since I installed PMDG 747-400X i've had terrible FPS, and honestly I thought it was my system that was too slow to handle all the graphics etc. involved with the PMDG B744. I really did think it was normal. However! Last night I tried to do fullscreen again for the first time after having switched my graphics card from HD2900 to HD3870X2 and everything was completely smooth (I haven't been using fullscreen because I wanted to use undocked windows)! I even increased most of the settings and it kept going smooth. I tried windowed mode again and it was terrible, but I noticed that when I made the window smaller FPS was as smooth as fullscreen. So I tried to make some different sizes and I discovered that whenever the FSX windowed frame would be under the left bottom Vista "start" button it would be reduced quite much. Could this have something to do with the aero theme? I've taken a screenshot and put a small red box highlighting the area. Any comments? http://i30.tinypic.com/10yidn7.jpg

It happens with all OS's and versions of FS, not just Vista. If your main window slightly overlaps the edge of the screen anywhere then your FPS will drop.

Ah I didn't know that :D I never read anything about it anywhere on the PMDG OPS - must be common knowledge lolAtleast i'll be able to undock the windows I want now with good fps.

Feel free to add something about it to Ops - this is a Windows/Driver/FS issue, not something PMDG has any control over and contrary to popular opinion I don't know everything there is to know about stuff like this. ;)

Just to add to Bill Casey's reply: espec important to avoid VIEW overlaps when running multi monitors- but Popups can be overlapped without penalty- at least in XP.(Best of all for appearance in Window mode, hide both Menu and Task bars so they are only visible on request. Then get rid of the ghastly MS blue in Title bars with a colour change- I use dark gray with green lettering, ala` Boeing CDU.) Alex Reid

Ryan,I had completely misunderstood, then. Because of your constant excellent feedback to us, I had formed the opinion that you do know everything there is to know about stuff! ;)Cheers, Richard
