MD-11: FS9 vs. FSX

Recommended Posts

Hi,I read that the MD-11 is going to need a bit of re-engineering work to get it to fly in FS9, but I was wondering: when all is done, will the FS9 version have the same features of the FSX version, or might it lack a few things due to limitations? As much as I moan FSX doesn't run well (enough) on my rig, if the MD-11 will be better (from the perspective of flying) for running under FSX, I'll seriously consider it.Best regards,Robin.

Robin,Regarding systems there shouldn't be much missing if anything. However FS9 is somewhat inferior regarding sounds, 3D modeling and texturing and those will be affected (3D sound and wing flex animation come to mind).Of course I'm no programmer or modeler so they'll be able to give you a more thorough answer. Markus is right for the sounds - Generally both platforms will have similar cockpit sounds but the FSX version has the 3D sound cone technology for the external views where the sound eminating from the aircraft depends on the angle and direction you observe the aircraft. Also FSX has builtin wingviews which also has a its own sound mix which gives you a representation of the cabin sound just behind the wings.Armen L Cholakianhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/priv/img/forum/sig_pmdg.jpg

Biggest difference will undoubtedly be in the visual model and textures, FS9 just can't do some of the things FSX can in those areas - smooth wingflex, gear and flap animations, bump/normal maps, high res textures etc..
