Widescreen LCD Monitor

Recommended Posts

The PMDG 747 does not have panels designed specifically for widescreen monitors, so the panels will look slightly stretched horizontally (a round gauge will appear slightly oval). The upcoming PMDG MD-11 has been designed for both standard and widescreen monitors, so with either monitor type, you will see no distortion.Best,http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/for...er_MD11_Vin.jpg

John:I have been using only widescreen for the past few years- first a 22" then a 24" then a 28" and now a 40" Sony XBR. I only fly VC and there it's fantastic. In 2D the panels do look odd- but that has never been a factor as I simply do not use 2d at all.As far as size, I researched quite a bit before I decided on the 40"- I feel its bog enough, without the pixel size based image degredation- 1080p is 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels no matter how big the screen and I think that FOR ME the 40" strikes the perfect balance between size and sharpness.Best-Carl F. Thanks, I only use the 2D panels at the start of the flight to set up the MCP and ease of access to the controls for setup. Otherwise I use the VC mode. I do find that with a normal CRT monitor that the PFD/ND etc size does depend on the screen resolution selected. Some modes look really bad.I will most likely go for a 24" LCD. I do like the CRT as the picture is much cleaner/clearer, more vibrant than compared to a LCD but they just don't seem to make them anymore.John Veldthuishttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa475.png

John- a Widescreen monitor offers some interesting opportunities to improve the 2D panel.Drag the panel edge to the left to resize gauges to circular. Then use this vacant space for a popup or two. Here's a test pic to illustrate- note the Lower EICAS CRT now displayed on the right with the EICAS SELECTOR SWITCHES above as part of the MCP- where they really belong. The FMC popup might also be layered in the same location. This mockup was done on a 4:3 CRT- hence the black strip at the bottom after resizing to simulate Wide format. Black rectangles on each side are for monitors 2&3- inactive in this shot.I'm using an LCD & 2 CRTs- can't distinguish berween them.Alex Reidhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192050.jpg

>I know FSX has a Widescreen aspect switch but can someone>comment on how the 744X looks on the widescreen and if>everything works okay?I use a 22inch monitor at 1680x1050 with the widescreen switch DISABLED and all looks great in the VC. Tried with the switch on and it messes up the perspective. Try both to see what works for you. 2D panels are perfectly useable.Remember that larger monitors mean larger resolutions which means more work for your graphics card(s)! FPS will decrease accordingly.Konrad

In the FSX.cfg file there is an entry that has something about aspect in it (can't remember exactly what it is at the mo as I am at work). This switch when set to True is suppose to set FSX for WideScreen monitors with the default planes and such so everything stays in perspective.John Veldthuishttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa475.png

I currently run 1600x1200 on my 19" CRT so no issues there. I have a pretty grunty machine and don't get below 16FPS even at the heaviest airfield and my new one I am building will be even more able to handle it with DDR3 ram, GTX280 Gfx, high end Quad core (have not decided which one yet), 1600FSB motherboard, etc.John Veldthuishttp://www.virtualpilots.org/signatures/vpa475.png

John- the widescreen 2D panel extension works just fine in Full Screen and gives me about 15% boost to FPS. Thanks for the suggestion.(Full Screen does not work with triple monitors.)Here's the same pic in Full Screen- again with the lower EICAS CRT & SELECTOR SWITCHES extension to the panel.Alex Reidhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192098.jpg

>Konrad, what "widescreen switch" are you referring to?WideViewAspect=False (or True)In the DISPLAY section of the FSX.cfg file. I am running widescreen with this set to False as True messes up my perspective. Go figure...Konrad

Could you replost the image? It no longer seems available and I would really like tosee how you have this arranged.I just got a 26" widescreen and am very disappointed that all the 2d panelsare stretched and look terrible.ThanksDaveG
