747x dome lighting issue

Recommended Posts

ever since the fsx version i have never been able to get full dome lighting during pre flight without an engine running. The majority of the flightdeck is very dark excluding the overhead, ped and main panel/mcp. As soon as an engine is started the rest of the flight deck illuminates. This never used to happen in the fs9 version and is no good for the pre flight at night. I dont see why normal lighting should be dependent on the engines generator supplied power, its clear to see from pictures and videos that the flight deck can be very bright before engine start on the real aircraftground power or apu power does not make any differenceanyone noticed this issuekav

No problems here. Once ground power or APU is established it comes on fine. Hopefully someone who has overcome this will chime in.Regards,

I havent noticed it but then again I rarely use the Dome light for preflight. The Panel, Overhead and Floor glareshield lights are what I use.

some shots of the dome light with different power supplies and engine variationshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192148.jpgexternal power connected dome light offhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192149.jpgexternal power connected dome light on, same areas ulluminated but slightly brighter with dome light switch to onhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192150.jpgAPU power connected dome light on, same as above, the rest of flightdeck still very darkhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192158.jpgone engine running , dome light switch in exactly the same position as in previous shot (ON) yet suddenly the dark areas of the vc are illuminated. Turn the engine off and the bright areas extinguish again. But it makes no difference if the engine generator switches are on or off the lights still illuminate when the engine is running see next shot belowhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192159.jpgbright dome lights and rest of flightdeck still illuminated as engine is running yet all gen switches are off. Only panel lights have turned off not domehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192160.jpg dome/cabin lights on gen switches offthere for i see 2 issues here firstly it seems that the dome lights programmed logic is triggered simply by weather any engine is running rather than by weather there is some source of power provided from either external / APU /or battery / or eng genand seccondly it does not depend on weather the engine gen swith is on or off, completely bypassing this and simply just weather the engine is running or notany one from the team shed some light on thisthankskavan

hii have found out from the team that it was not possible to have the full dome lighting in the 747 x without an engine running because"The dome light effect had to programmed as a Smoke attempt. Since the dome light is a smoke effect, and will not work because FSX requires that the engines are running for smoke (don't ask me why). We have found a work around for the MD11 project but at this time, its not possible to implement for the 747-400X."so i was just curious as to what you meant when you said"No problems here. Once ground power or APU is established it comes on fine"how have you overcome this?thankskav

I mistakenly thought your panels weren't lighting sufficiently for, say, pre-flight. Sorry. I have exactly what you have.Thank you for reporting what you found out from the team.
