Dreamliner 787 - Do It PMDG!

Today was the most exhilarating and memorable day in my life since I first had sex twenty years ago. But today it was different, I actually knew what I was doing and how to treat the lady.Today I visited the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2008 trade show at FAYP (Ysterplaat Air Force Base - Cape Town, South Africa.)In one of the large hangers, I stumbled upon the Boeing Dreamliner stand, where behold I found god ... a Dreamliner flight deck simulator. Like most, my jaw dropped and I gave a huge sigh.There in front of me was the most beautiful flight deck I've ever seen. (See official photos). At first impression it looks very similar to the 777 flight deck, but also a cross breed with the 737NG. I got chatting to the manager of the stand, and asked him if there would be any remote chance to take her for a spin. Although the simulator was meant for airline pilots in attendance, he was impressed with the knowledge I had demonstrated in my questions to him, thanks to my many years of being a PMDG fan. I took him a bet I could start it up, taxi it to the runway, take off and land it safely again within 15 minutes. With a challenge like this from a non-pilot, he seemed to be delighted and invited me to sit on the captain's seat and show him what I could do. Everything was very familiar, with a few extra buttons on the MCP, and a slightly different arrangement on the primary displays. It wasn't long and I was well orientated. Start-up was a bit different, taxing a breeze, and take off and flight so smooth. The first thing that you notice is how stable and smooth she flies. She runs on MS Flight Sim X too. Interesting!The take-off and Landing airport was Heathrow. Approach and landing was like second nature. All in all, she is one impressive lady, spacious, modern and user friendly. Rating from 777 to 787, is reported to be a 5 hour conversion. WOW.The instructor was stunned that it was possible for a novice to fly their aircraft with minimal instruction. Even some SAA 737-800 pilots asked me afterwards which airline I was with. LOLOk, I have to go have dinner now, so I'm not going to ramble on, but all I can say is that the boys at PMDG better rethink the A320 development and get their creative juices ready for the Deamliner sooner. To all those begging for the 777, I can assure you, this baby will quench your desires. PLEASE, PLEASE, pretty please PMDG, get your butts over to Evert, chat to the dreamliner development team, and give us the aircraft of the future.PS: The Dreamliner team are very much aware of PMDG and stated they would love their plane to be a MS Flight Sim add-on. Great post :-)If there were a PMDG 787 I'd buy it. Mind you, I'd also buy a PMDG 777 or, even better, a 717 ;-)

Sounds like you had a great time! I was at the Farnborough airshow a few months back and they had the 787 mock-up running on FSX too :) It was no where near as advanced as in your shot, it had 3 very large LCD screens for visuals, the main panel and MCP, but the pedestal/throttle was a touch sensitive panel. Anyway it was amazing to see and play with then :)

WOOOOW you did not know how to tread a lady 20 years ago !!!????Seriously though, congratulations you lucky man.But as two of you have experienced a 787 sim, running on FSX, the question remains: Who developed it for FSX???I would love to have an PMDG version of this future workhorse. But not likely until FS11.I love the subtle gray colour of this flightdeck.Golli.

I just think that the PMDG team have built their phenomenal success and reputation on meticulous attention to detial and their leadership in Boeing type aircraft simulation thus far. People have come to expect PMDG to be the BOEING SPECIALISTS, and that's branding not to be taken lightly and should be harnessed and further expanded upon.Don't get me wrong, I love Airbus too, but think PMDG should stick to their core Boeing assembly and uphold the tradition of Boeing variants. No matter which way we look at it, the Dreamliner IS set to be the next popular generation of aircraft type, as well as the 747-8. Is there any reason PMDG can't stake their claim at the forefront by bringing this to us sooner than the Airbus, rather than having to buy second rate add ons which do a dis-service to the type?AntCape TownSouth Africa

Neat pictures, I agree, that cockpit looks really cool. It would definitely be a treat to have that in FS, of course you all know by which developper ;)

Yes a dreamliner would be really nice for MSFS but looking at it from a Developers prospective it might take alot longer to design this aircraft than most of us think because PMDG ( or anyone else for that matter ) does not have enough information to design this bird. Same goes for the A380. Why try to design something you don't know that much about???As far as the Airbus family is concerned, I'm glad PMDG is steping up to the plate to model these planes... Its been long over due to have a decent Airbus for MSFS....Really, I'll buy just about anything with the PMDG name slapped to it :-hah.
