PMDG MD-11 for FSX Release News

Recommended Posts

Captains!Eight years ago, Bill Grabowski launched development of what he planned to be an in depth simulation of the MD-11 airplane. He was joined soon after by the very talented Michael Frantzeskakis. Four years ago, Bill, Michael and their MD-11 project was joined by the rest of the PMDG team.Tonight, after eight years of very hard work, the PMDG MD-11 has been released for us with Flight Simulator X!This simulation has achieved the goal of raising the level of realism and fidelity for flight simulation enthusiasts. From start-up to shut-down, the PMDG MD-11 provides the look, sound and feel of a large modern airliner in way that no simulation product has yet achieved.Developed with the help of MD-11 flight crew, engineers and training specialists, the PMDG MD-11 has even had input from the original MD-11 design build team to help ensure that ever detail of this simulation is finely crafted for perfection.Every switch, knob, lever and action on the flight deck is controlled with unique new control-cursors developed just for the PMDG MD-11. Each switch and button has had it's own unique sound recorded from within the aircraft, resulting in hundreds of unique sounds helping to weave a unique experience of "being there" that is not often achieved in simulation software. The virtual cockpit is intricately detailed using thousands of references and years of refinement to make each detail match the actual airplane with incredible accuracy and clarity.Innovative new techniques to allow for fully-range dimmable lighting having been implemented in the Virtual and 2D cockpits, as well as highly optimized display technology replicating the visual spleandor of the MD-11 instrumentation. And of course, the heart of the PMDG MD-11 is the flight management system, modeled with incredible depth and completeness, and tested for thousands of hours to ensure that even the most complicated navigation problems are handled precisely as they would be in the airplane.Advanced flight, engine and FMS/Autoflight mathematical prediction modeling of the likes only achieved by PMDG provides a smooth, authoritative simulation unlike any other available to the flight simulation community. This simulation has been designed from the beginning to invoke the kind of excitement that comes along only rarely in a hobby such as flight simming: Raw Excitement. The hard work of the many developers and testers is evident in the high quality of this release, and we are proud to finally present the PMDG MD-11 to you!PLATFORMS:==========There will be three PMDG MD-11 products offered:PMDG MD-11X for FSX: FSX version released today.PMDG MD-11 for FS2004: FS2004 version due by year end. (subject to change +/-)PMDG MD-11 COMBO PACK: FS2004 and FSX versions in a single combined purchase. (FS9 version will be supplied upon release.)PRICING:========PMDG has traditionally been the market leader in terms of pricing for new products. With the release of the PMDG MD-11, we have made the decision to hold-the-line on pricing by keeping the MD-11 in line with the previously released PMDG 747-400X.Additionally, for customers who wish to own the MD-11 on BOTH Flight Simulator platforms, we have offered special pricing on a COMBO package that effectively provides 50% off the base price of the second MD-11. Pricing is as follows:PMDG MD-11 for FSX:

Bill, Robert, PMDG et al....AS I am nearing time to descend into IMC conditions at RJAA on my first flt from Bahrain I am overwhelmed with the quality of this new plane.I only skimmed over the manuals [was too excited to get my hands on the plane] however I was able to fully program the flight into the FMC and get the plane started and into the air... no doubt a testament to the quality of the plane.Yes, I have a bit of experience... mostly Boeing... but it goes a long way!I cant say enough about the modeling of the plane; the systems, the auto-throttle is awesome... (never seen one that works so smoothly and responsive without overcompensating to a fault!) I didnt expect to dribble over the MD11 in this way... but its been a one of kind experience.I have purchased every decent sim aircraft produced in the last 10 years or so... and I have every plane from PMDG, none comes close to what you've produced here in the MD11.I love a plane that gives me a challenge... my first flt was just a hop around the airport where I crashed on final approach - it brought a smile to my face cause I knew I had a very well modeled and accurately simulated aircraft on my hands. You guys did a righeous job on this one... I can only wonder what the upcoming 737 NGX will provide...Thank you all for the countless hours and sleepless nights, I have had the honor of beta testing the Dreamfleet 737 a few years back, so I've got an idea of the level of work that goes into a sim like this... Please know that this simmer stands in awe of your work and will proudly support and promote your work without any hesitation.Regards,Ted Panamarioff - Kodiak, AlaskaCore 2 Duo E64004gb RAMnVidia GTS8800 640mbVista 32

Is it really 8 years since Bill announced the MD-11? Wow. That was when the ERJ145 panel had been released and became a major success. I've been waiting all this time and still have about a month to go ;-)Best wishes for this aircraft and thanks Bill and everyone else :-)

From the deepest of my Flight simulant soul: Thank you for this great airplane. No words more except : Bill, I loved your MD11 panel years ago. Now you and the crew around you set a stamp in developing a good airplane in the strkt possibilities of FSX / FS9. I fly it in FSX, never used this version of FS before. And it works well and smooth. Also on addon sceneries like EGLL by Aerosoft.Really surprising me.Bad thing: I have to collect all the addon stuff now for FSX, or have to hope that the FS9 version will be 75% as good as the FSX-version of MD11.Thanks again. Worth every cent of money. Which is seldom in the FS world...Steffen RabenauStevens-va.de

Because of the great customer service and fine products, PMDG is #1 in my book. My FS9 MD-11 is working it's way down the production line and if all goes well I hope to see it on the west ramp by December where I can take customer delivery.I have been hoping and waiting for a very long time for such a product, and my hat is off to you guys for making an FS9 version as you were smart enough to realize that there are still a lot of FS9 Captains out there.I cant wait to push the throttles on this fine MD-11!Michael Pare.

I don't know if you can "Clap" in a forum, but I think the PMDG team deserve a standing ovation for all their efforts, and they still have such good support for their customers. you guys are the bar and you raise it every time. The only question now is, what's next? Thank you all so much for your hard work.Ian

let me clap clap clap, it has been a loooong journey for the PMDG team, and they can be proud of what they've done so far...FS9 MD11 is awaiting me upon release, and once again I would like to say "KUDOS" to PMDG they do deserve all respect from the simmers community. As for the next stage....how about an L-1011 with the latest of Lockheed's glass cockpit technology, hadn't Lockheed ended production of the L1011, it would have been the first glass-cockpit acf.My very best to you all, and let's keep the 3-hollers flying for years to come.

forgot to mention that it's always nice to dream a bit ;)the L-1011 would be a true challenge imagine to create the direct lift control and the active lift control...Happy landings.

I know its been suggested in the past, and it seems to obvious to ask really, but a truly world class airbus, to knock the others into a cocked hat would be amazing. rather than the cut down, poorly supported versions we all have to put up with, I guess it would be difficult because there's so many different types for different jobs. just a thought, I know its not a creative suggestion but I'm sure it would be popular. many of us have spent quite considerable sums on payware add ons, and they should be of high enough quality. I have no problem with paying a bit more for PMDG stuff, cause I trust that it will be amazing, they clearly put in the work, and have a proper development process which includes testing and responding to users. I cant stand being hyped at and then discovering issue after issue, and excuse after excuse. so for me, and from a practical point of view a really decent A321 or A330 200, that'll do quite long as well as shorter flights. perhaps the beauty of this is that a good deal of the core logic is the same, and if you spent time developing the flight models and nuances of the individual aircraft, it could be quite portable and interchangeable.or for the future, when its released a 787, I know virgin have a load on order, and its supposed to be 27% more fuel efficient (something I read somewhere)cheers allIan
