fms fuel calculation

Recommended Posts

Is there any place in the manual that I can learn how to do the fms fuel planning because I tried to do it and I became very very confused. Or can someone show me the way on how to do it?Thanks

Fuel planning is very complex, normally not done by the pilot. I think it is worthwhile to take the time to learn it because it broadens your knowledge of what is going on.However, for just setting up a flight for whatever reason I first load the flight plan, cruise altitide and cost index. Then I look on the INIT Pg 2 to see what that looks like. It will tell you how much reserve you have and of course it tells you immediately if your landing weight is too high. Then I open the PMDG Fuel Menu and adjust the fuel load to give me an hour or so of reserve. You may want to adjust cruise altitude during this process, but in just one or three iterations you'll get a satisfactory fuel load. Obviously, long flight should have some wind data included with the flight plan but on short 2-3 hr trips it's not as much of a factor. This is a quick and dirty method... but like I said, it's a good idea to keep going back to the book and charts to find out why things work.Hope this helps.

But where are the charts cause I cant find them. What you said is what I usually do, so is there any training material for it or charts in the fms manual or in the others?

Someone is bound to (hopefully) soon come up with a GUI fuel planner app like exists for the 744 and the LDS 763...
