Connecting two computers with FS2002 and Squawkbox

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi.Since I have a performance degradation with FS2002 and all the add-ons, so that when I connect to Internet and FS is running, downloading data is practically impossible, I tried to connect two computers, via parallel cable and WideFS, so that in #1 I run FS2002 and in #2 Squawkbox and all the rest. I also connect #2 to Internet. But #1 computer doesn't seem to see external traffic and if I want to download real weather data, through Jeppesen, in the FS meteo menu, of course it doesn't, since it doesn't see the Internet connection. Is there a way to let this system work? Thanks in advance,Luca

I don't think WideFS works over a parallel port. It needs to be connected via two network interface cards (NIC) and a crossover cable if all you have are two computers. WideFS uses IPX/SPX or TCP/IP.Further MS Meteo is a *.dll within the modules folder of fs2002 and can't be place on a second computer. Only stand alone programs that interface with fs2002 via FSUIPC, such as, real weather, Nav3.1, Super Flight Planner, can be placed on a second computer using WideFS. Since the fs2002 and FS Meteo are internal to fs2002, they don't use this interface directly and will not work in the manner you want. In your case, you still need to use the network interface on the computer were fs2002 resides.Your only option would be to relocate the stand alone programs to the second computer and let the FSUIPC interface communicate with FS2002.

I stand corrected. You are correct, I was confusing FSNav with FS Meteo. The "old" mind must be going.
