MD-11 problem when flying a selected heading

Hello,I've got a problem with flying the MD-11 by using the HDG mode.Now I've tried two patterns at two different airports. For flying the patterns I've used the HDG mode. After pulling the HDG knob the MD-11 has followed the selected HDG course but I've observed a permanent movement of the plane about the long axis. After captureing the glideslope everything worked fine. The MD-11 has followed the GS very stable without any movements about the long axis. This problem didn't occur too when flying a route with the MD-11 controlled by the FMS.Can you please tell me whats wrong with my MD-11 when flying in HDG mode?Thanks,Patric

Patric,Hard to pinpoint without seeing the panel and annunciations but you are probably seeing the winds pushing your plane off TRACK while in HDG mode. This is automatically compensated in GS and LNAV modes.Hope it helps,

Does the aircraft roll let and right continuously?I have the same problem in HDG select. I find it goes away if you accelerate, but it is most prevelant at around 180KIAS.Martin Neep

Gents,Please provide us with a screen shot of your main panel. I still believe you are seeing strong cross wind influences. And rightly so the influence should get more pronounced the slower you fly.Hope it helps,

Hello again,OK, here comes the screenshot. It was made while rolling from left to right after selecting the heading. The "swing"-problem already occured directly after the takeoff. Take a look at the artificial horizon!Patric

This has nothing to do with wind.The aircraft rolls from left to right in a continuous oscillation. Funnily enough, in the same configuration this phenomenon doesn't occur if you select NAV. For me it is most prevelant at 180KIAS with flaps 15.Regards,Martin

It has nothing to do with flaps settings too. On the screenshot you can see a flaps setting of 28 but I've tried it with a setting of 15 at a speed of 190KIAS too. The same problem occured.Patric
