Not sure if I can or not, but can I fly this type of aircraft, those NM ? Or EGLL to KLAX ?Also, any freighter versions of the 767 in real use ?

EGLL - KLAX is fine as most of the flight is over land!Tom

SAN to RJTT is flown up the coast roughly to Vancouver then direct if the winds are strong, but other wise basically directly there along the Pacific Rim. The 767 has a range of about 6100nm, and SAN-RJTT is about 4900nm, should be no problem, but you will need lots of avgas.Cheers,Greg

I beg your pardon, but the question is incomplete. What about the time ? (60, 75, 120, 180 minutes) and the Engine-out Speed (TAS) ?Without these parameters , how can you determine if ETOPS is applicable?RinaldoP.S.Of course because we are simulating, it is understood, from the equipment point of view, that PIC767 is an Extended Range aircraft.

Well, usually it's 180 minutes at a TAS of about 400 (have to descend lower), but any defect at all, or one on a previous flight will decrease the limit. For example on the UA777 DVD, they had I believe a problem with the oil that they fixed on the previous flight MSP-ORD, then for ORD-LHR, they got 138 min ETOPS instead of 180.Greg

>EGLL - KLAX is fine as most of the flight is over land! What does land have to do with ETOPS? I'm certainly not an expert, nor a RW pilot, but I believe ETOPS is concerned with time to a suitable diversionary airfield. Not too many of those over the Arctic, Greenland, etc...

Frankly, I would be concerned if they tanked up a 767 with Avgas instead of Jet A...."but you will need lots of avgas."ETOPS is also based on airlines demonstrated ability which allows for an increase in time requirements as well as MEL items (Min Equpt items) conditionsTimothy

Very true. Typically, when people think of ETOPS, they think of extended flights over water. But ETOPS is used in situations where there is no nearby suitable alternate. Much of northern Canada falls into that category. However, this is a very doable flight. You're not going to be going up into the Arctic regions, and you'd probably head right over the Southern tip of Greenland. A typical route might be:EGLL SID WELIN UA2 POL UB4 ULA UN601 STN UN610 RATSU (66N020W 70N030W 71N040W 71N050W 70N060W) LAT5 YEK DCT YQD DCT VLN DCT GGW DCT BIL DCT SLC J9 MLF J107 CIVET CIVET4 KLAX(Don't know how well the f/p would work in PIC; the navdata's a little out of date). Depending on the day's weather and wind conditions, you'd probably use some of the following airports as enroute ETOPS alternates:EIDW - Dublin, IrelandBIKF - Keflavik, IcelandBGBW - Narsaruaq, GreenlandCYYR - Goose Bay, CanadaCYWG - Winnipeg, CanadaHave fun on the longhauls,Jon (KSEA)

Do they use 180 minute ETOPS on trans-Atlantic flights? I thought 120 or 138 minutes was all that was necessary.I believe 180 minute is needed for flights like US West Coast - Hawaii and polar routes.Jon (KSEA)

There are quite a few over Greenland, Northern Canada hence that's why they put the NCA tracks along set routes - they take into account ETOPS when designing these tracks in the first place.Tom
