Hi Ian,I have a little Q. regarding the eng. Whats a Strut midspar fuse pin alignment strip on a B747-425???Thanx in advance :)

Wouldn't this message be better posted on the Aerowinx 747-400 forum, ColdBear? ;-)Actually, not being an Engine/Airframe type engineer, I'm not 100% sure what it represents, but I have seen it. It's simply a black, vertical stripe (at a guess, 8 inches long?(hard to tell from the ground)) painted on the side of the engine support strut. One half of the strip is on one section of the strut, the other half is on another section of the strut (below the other section). If the two halves are not aligned properly, I believe (by the sound of it's description), that the engine fuse pin(s) may have suffered damage... and the engine may be about to fall off. As I understand it, the fuse pins are simply bolts which shear under a set force.... allowing the engine to flip over the wing if the engine contacts the ground very heavily (usually in a crash situation, of course :-)).The flip action is to propel the engine over the top of the wing, instead of ramming it back into the fuel tanks. I have yet to figure out how on earth the engine flips over instead of under.To be honest, since it's not (yet) part of my job description, I haven't looked for these on 767 engine struts ;-)Hope this helps... and...er... the information in my message is correct.Cheers.Ian.
