Featured Replies

The next PIC on VATSIM flight will be on Sunday, September 22, 2002The start time for the event is 1900Z.For full details of the event and the zip file containing all charts, files, scenery etc. Go to http://www.eleventhstreet.com/pic/ Our Canadian flight will begin at 1900 GMT and originate from Cranbrook (CYXC). This is a 767 Pilot in Command featured event and all 767 PIC pilots are welcome to join. Ian Elchitz put together the web page for us and set up the download available at the address above. The flight locations were chosen based on the suggestion of Bill Van Caulart. We all owe them a big

A screen shot would be very helpful for me at least since i never could figure it out.THANKS MIKE

Mike,Having just read through the web site details can I ask you something. Are you totally barking mad ? :-hahWere you smoking something funny when you put these FPs together ? :-lolI think we should run a book as to how many PICs actually make it to CYOD in one piece. If the wx is suspect my guess is around the same as finished the last PIC flyin' :-xxrotflmaoWhose tried CYBA then ? :-zhelp:-lol

I guarantee all of these fields can handle a 767 both in and out (and with bad wx).Last week I did CYVR CYLW CYXC CYYC CYEG CYOD and it was perfect.About a year ago I flew to Cold Lake in the midst of a CVA flying while they were doing PAR approaches with about 1/2nm visibility and blowing snow like mad.Was lucky enough to have Pete Adcock talk me down - was simply amazing.Of course as an alternate Dean you could just stay in Calgay, as long as the 12,675 foot runway is long enough for you to land your Unicom aricraft LMAO.This is going to be great people.Ian Elchitz CYWG

Sounds great, the departure out of Cranbrook is very scenic and requires a sharp climb and turn after takeoff...I have only two minor concerns...1 - The link (Ian's) appears to be dead - maybe my work PC has an issue with it, I will try it at home later.2 - Cranbrook BC has about enough room to park 4 or 5 767's at the most, and that includes the taxiways and "stand". I will put my off-road tires on the PIC767 and prepare for some off-taxiwaying ;-)Rob.

I will drop the screenshot I have saved on the forum when I get home tonight. No Problem.

MAD, (cough cough from the smoke) I'm not MAD!Stick with me Dean, "Trust Me". You will love it. And don't take any crap from Ian. Give it right back. But be nice cause we don't want the thread to evaporate.

Rob,Must be a block on the link from your PC at work because it goes just fine from the 3 different PCs I tried. I loaded in the scenery files for Cranbrook and Cold Lake, they are VERY nice and are not overdone with frame rate killers. As for parking, the fringe areas at Cranbrook and Cold Lake have been rocked and paved over just for this event. :-) All,I have only done 1 PAR approach and I can tell you it is really neat. Mr. Rob (ACA856) is also known as Mr. Decending Nicely.

Hi Mike,I got the link to work - must be a bad ISP day here at work...all this work getting in the way...That new "paved" area at Cranbrook is mighty bumpy ;-)PAR approaches are great, especially in IMC...I usually chase the FD with V/S set to the glidepath (about 700ft/min)...when the controller says "descend now", I set the MCP altitude to the runway elevation and then hit V/S and -manually- follow the cues....that takes care of the vertical, it's the lateral that takes a little more care with winds ;-)Soooo looking forward to Sunday...I have also done YVR-Kelowna-Cranbrook via-767 a couple times, it is a nice warm up flight, very scenic. The girlfreind has been warned, Sunday is all about ME, she will be stowed away in a box, red, with a sign saying in case of Emergency...Check out the insanity of KLAX yesterday? - a new VATSIM record...awesome....how long were you holding for Mike? One thing to pump about this weekend...the majority of controllers on this one will be REAL WORLD...meaning NONE of the usual "challenges" associated with large group flights coupled with 'not-for-real' ATC. They won't "forget" about you after you take off; they won't readback little Timmy's ammended IFR clearance for the third time while you are on short final waiting for landing clearance with an A/C on the runway ahead; they won't clear you direct to nowhere; and they will be "As real as it Gets!!!". I should do a Top 10 Pilot and ATC goofs, maybe soon when the forum gets really boring and needs an enema (sp) / shakeup.Rob.

Just going to jump in here and say I was in 3 different holds on the surprisingly long marathon from SFO to LAX then flew the approach at 180 knots from the Fillmore VOR behind some slow traffic. Luckily the FMC handled it like a PRO.Saved by PIC767, yet again.

FYI,I flew into CYXC yesterday afternoon. For those planning on flying to YXC to begin the event - Not an easy landing as far as the length goes. Taking off was not much of a problem, with 245ZFW, Flaps 15, and 20,000 lbs of fuel on a nice summer day 26C - I lifted off rather easily using manual throttle control.I will try it again using the N1 switch to fly down the runway and see if I can get her off the ground. Also - there is not a lot of parking on the ground at YXC. Make sure you have your OFFRUNWAY and AIRCRAFT COLLISIONS turned off or else you will be miserable. Definetly will be off roading. This will especially be interesting, as each aircraft must taxi down the runway and turn around before taking off..We have lots of fun ahead of us friends...Ian Elchitz CYWG

Hi Ian,Those were my concerns as well - then Darrel called me a chicken ;-)CYXC is do-able with N1, no de-rate, no problem at 265,000lbs GW.The delay could be lengthy depending on traffic out of CYXC with each a/c turn-around before t/o...however...I know with the ATC we will have on board that they will keep an orderly line and move people as expeditiously as possible...in the order they were given clearence...I am optimistic the delays will be minimal as long as pilots cooperate with each other, and follow ATC instructions. See ya there!Rob.

Sounds good guys. I'll diffenitly try to be there. I just tried the CYVR - CYLW flight from the Other section on the webpage. Had to circle around for the 33 approach at CYLW. After doing 1 missed approach I landed too hard and collapsed the main gear. Tough approach! Going to try a few more of these flights before Sunday so I don't embarrass myself too much. :-)

The flight plans furnished show jetways to join after departure. After playing around in the FMC, my suggestion for programming the route is as follows.CYXC-CYYCUse the RTE page to enter this route and do not engage LNAV until you have turned onto the magenta line representing J517 and cleaned up on the legs page by moving LUMBY to the top position and EXEC the change. At that point, you will be direct LUMBY. Remember, on departure you will fly direct to XC if departing north, left turn to XC if departing south. Use best rate of climb through 14,000.Route to program: XC YXC J517 FARNS OPALE, Then select the OPALE5 STARThe legs page will look like this:XC YXC LUMBY FARNS OPALE HANDA(at 14000) ALBRO HANSIThe YXC fix is only there to establish J517 on the EHSI. You will not fly to YXC.CYYC-CYEGUse the LEGS page to program this route. Assumed SID is BARBOW.WESEXArrival STAR is GELLE.GELLE2Legs page will look like this: WESEX DAGTY GELLE ROSLICYEG-CYODYou can program the 5T4 airway if you like but the LEGS page will just be this:YEG UODFlight levelsThe ones I posted are to be considered maximum altitudes for these runs. Select something a bit lower if you prefer in order get the best views of the terrain we will pass over.
