I am looking for a table with relation between speed and flap setting for the PIC767 for takeoff and landing. Can anyone help?Second question: the PIC767 will set the speedbugs automatically (after clicking the "hidden area" based on the FMC settings. What is the meaning of each bug?Thanks.Regards,Jan van Bekkum

Not exactly. When you click the hidden spot to set your speedbugs in direct relation to the FMC calculations you'll get 5 different locations. The lowest speed bug (slowest IAS) is your V1 speed. VR is not shown. You'll have to remember that from the INIT page on the FMC. The internal cursor on the ASI (orange cursor set by using the selector on the MCP) will be set at V2. The next bug will be the bug at which you would retract your flaps from 15

BARGE-Below I have included a picture with the hidden spot circled in red. If you move your mouse over this spot after your FMC has been set up (specifically the TAKEOFF REF page where your V speeds are calculated) and you left click when a hand appears all of the speed bugs will move to the positions I listed above. From the picture we can see that V1 is approximately 121 knots (122 according to FMC). The orange speed cursor is set at V2 of 139 knots. The next bug is where you'd retract your flaps from 15

Thanks DeeJay it is very clear now. I take it this is just sim specific and that this button doesn't actually exist right? And the other thing is, is this in the manual or is this some kind of secret thing ?? If it is a secret thing, how many other things are there that I should know about ??Thanks againBarge

Yes, this is just for ease of use for 767 PIC users. In the real a/c the pilots have to set the bugs by hand. Although, I've never seen an ASI with 5 white bugs. While I worked at ATA here in Indianapolis I got into the cockpits of pretty much all the aircraft and the most I ever saw was 4 on the 752s and the new 753s. A couple of the 722s had 3, some had 4. I can't quite remember how many the L10s had, but I KNOW it wasn't 5. I don't know about the new 738s. When we took delivery of the first one the closest I got to the cockpit was about 5 feet from the door before the Boeing delivery pilot stopped me dead in my tracks because he hadn't finished his securing checklist. I guess he wanted the a/c to be in pristine condition for the inauguration ceremony we had later that night. What a turnout that was. Seems everyone in Indianapolis wanted to see ATAs newest bird, and what a show she put on. I was more excited when we got our first 753. MAN that is a beautiful aicraft. Especially in the new livery. Anyhow, I never got another opportunity to get into the 738 cockpit after that first one arrived. I was gone before they came back into the hangar for their inspections since most of it was done daily on the line for quite some time after they arrived.Take some time to read through the manuals. Dan,With regards to your comment above about waiting until at the bug or above to retract the flaps to the next detent, Boeing actually says you can retract the flaps to the next detent 20 knots prior to the min speed for the next flap setting(assumes you are accelerating toward that speed). For example, if min clean speed is 210 knots, retract flaps from 1 to 0 at 190 knots while accelerating on departure.Kevin in CYOW

I have read that in the AOM for the 753. The reason I wait to retract the flaps is that the bugs seem to be just a tad bit off (generally lower) than the speed they are supposed to represent. I don't use the hidden spot to set my bugs, but use performance tables and set the bugs myself. Hey, we wanna be realistic when we do this right? Well, before takeoff you can use the orange cursor to set your speed bugs by dialing the speeds in on the MCP. But, on descent if you change the speed on the MCP you also change your aircraft's speed if in managed mode. So, I compromise by extending above the bug speed on descent and descending after the bug while on climbout and accelerating. Just a way to make sure you're staying in the safety threshold of the aircraft. But, no ill effects happen if you retract right on the bug mark. I was just giving an example of what I do to please my own style of flying. -=) BTW, if you click on that hidden spot you'll notice that the bugs set themselves at increments of 20 on VREF. The min clean speed will be at VREF30 + 80, the 0-1 speed will be at VREF30 + 60 and so on down the line except for the first (lowest speed) bug which is set at V1.
