PIC on VATSIM Sunday 2-23-2003I have settled on a date for the PIC on VATSIM flight featuring a fly-in to Athens LGAV and an outbound trip to Paris LFPG. The timing matches up with a UK event that also will be flying into Paris from the east. The flights will start at three different airports beginning at 1430 Zulu on February 23. The idea is to ease congestion at the originating fields and put us on three separate STARS into Athens. Our planned arrival into LGAV is between 1545 and 1615 GMT.We will depart Athens beginning at 1700 GMT and fly to Paris.Mark McGrath did the background work and rounded up real world routing for these flights through some help from

This sounds like a fantastic event, and the free scenery for LGAV and LOWW is great stuff. All you fence sitters, stop pulling your yokes and get on board for this flight. Tell the family you will be busy most of the day on Sunday, pay them off if you have to.No doubt, Mr. 'Kip' Biris, and co, will be on hand to provide the ATC - great stuff!...and...contrary to popular belief, you do not "have" to fly a 767 to participate in these events, no one is that particular! Fly whatever you want, but just make sure you fly into LGAV on Sunday!Rob.

Recently, I've been flying quite frequently in Europe and I'm very impressed by the controllers in Greece so I think we're in for a treat on Sunday.I don't know if any of you are aware of this but VATSIM now has a group of controllers in Israel led by our own Ilan "The Jones" Jonas. I've flown a few routes out of Israel and all the controllers are first-class too; if I'm not mistaken they are all real-life air traffic controllers.Maybe we should consider a PIC on VATSIM event in Israel sometime in the future to publicize the great work those guys are doing.

You don't want to miss this one! I hope they are ready for the onslaught in Greece.Get in early, avoid the holds ;-) Ask Ian if you don't think I am correct on this one.

Thank you Workingstiff! (blush blush)Yep, I am a real-world ATC, and so does 3 others (and growing...). The rest are licensed pilots, and some are just "natural talents" ;-).We will be very proud to host a PIC on VATSIM event - I had some ideas on that already... Michael you can always address me to my mail to help you organize things!I'll probably won't be able to join you this Sunday, since I have to be a real-life ATC that evening (for a change) :-)Enjoy the event over Europe- these guys has a lot to offer you!See you all,Ilan Jonas

Captain Bill has promised to help with the planning as we will walk through a simulated day in the life of BBall.

Funny you should mention this.I just finished sending an email off to Mike to do a quick calculation for me time enroute from Tel Aviv to Athens.I had a lot of fun the other morning flying from Ben Gurion to Eilat, and if I can work out the timing I plan on flying from Toronto to Tel Aviv followed by Tel Aviv Athens to join up with the rest.I have also flown a few times in the Greek VACC and have had nothing but excellent experiences with their ATC there. Highly recommended professional controllers.Ian Elchitz CYWGAir Canada 301

Hi Mike,I am preparing this Sunday event (and to wake-up early this Sunday!).I downloaded and install with no pb the data for LGAV that were missing in FS2002.I was planning to fly LCPH-LGAV as a first leg, but LCPH is not known in the FS2002 database. Do you know where I can fing the data for this airport ? (or should I just fly another 1st leg?).I am sorry I could not join you yesterday at LaPAz: it seemed to be really a lot of fun. Many thanks to you for setting up all those events that I plan to join Sunday for the first time.Bien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011

LCPH comes up for me just fine in FS2002. It is on the SE corner of the island and looks like a lovely place. Try it again and make sure you are typing on the "Airport ID" line. It will also come up if you type "Pafos" on the "airport name" line.

I have Paros / LGPA but definitely not Pafos / LCPH.I have the basic FS2002: maybe the database of FS2002pro is more complete.Anyway, not a big deal: I will fly another 1st leg. Bien amicalementMichelKSEA-AFR011
