PIC on VATSIM - Kenya to Tel-Aviv

Featured Replies

Saturday, September 13Nairobi Kenya to Tel-AvivThis is the flight I have been promising Ilan Jonas in recognition of his team bringing VATIL on line earlier this year. The time scheduled is a compromise to allow for ATC availability and local time zones in North America. Israel is plus 3 hours GMT. I am arranging for ATC out of Nairobi but we may have a couple center areas uncovered in route over Ethiopia and Sudan. I always enjoy flying in new areas of the world and this flight will give us a chance to cover some new real estate. We start at Jomo Kenyatta airport, the epicenter for real world safaris, in Nairobi Kenya which is about 100 miles north of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The route takes us up the east side of Lake Victoria, then over the equator right around the top of climb. After that we cross the southeastern tip of Sudan, western Ethiopia, and back over the heart of Sudan (KTM

As with nearly all of the previous PIC on VATSIM events, the 767PIC is the featured aircraft. But, everyone is welcome to join in. And really, you can use any aircraft you wish. You can even fly a default Lear Jet if you can find the intersections. Also, feel free to creat your own flight plan to LLBG from Europe and join us in the arrival. If you are not a member of VATSIM or are brand new, these events are a great way of listening in and getting a taste of how it all comes together. If you would like to listen in, download the free Roger Wilco program shown below. Then on the day of the flight give me a call on my AOL IM by clicking on the icon above. I will provide you the IP to join my current voice channel. Since you are not in the VATSIM session, I would suggest you join in receive only mode, otherwise please do not attempt to transmit if we are on an active ATC channel. For your callsign, just use your forum name.RogerWilco not later version than MkId3 (they are incompatible) for voice. This is the most stable version :http://www.vatsim-uk.org/download-files/rw...2_mk1c_mod1.zipMake sure you set it up for SLOW MODEM connection regardless of your actual connection speed. This is very importaint for maintaining a stable connection. Otherwise, you will become a host for the session and everyone's connection becomes troubled. You might also download and install the free ServInfo program. It provides a text and graphic display of our status.ServInfo http://www.avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo/downloads.htm

Thanks Ilan. I have a question regarding the scenery. I have those installed (if same as they were around 8 weeks ago) for FS2002. Are they compatible at all with FS9?Mike

Sounds like fun Mike - I'll do my best to join in.

Thanks Mike. I'm looking forward to this one. I've already marked the calander and served notice on my wife.

>Thanks Ilan. I have a question regarding the scenery. I>have those installed (if same as they were around 8 weeks ago)>for FS2002. Are they compatible at all with FS9?>>MikeDidn't missed it - I asked the guys here to run some checks (I don't have FS2004 since 767PIC for FS2004 hasn't arrived in Israel yet).I'll get answers soon.

Ok have the results - everything seems to work fine under FS9. There is a small issue however with the Mesh terrain and with the Garrish Grey tree pack (needed for LLBG) - the folder name has changed from 2002 to 2004, so you just need to install it in the correct folder.(FS9scenerybase instead of fs2002scenedbworldscenery)Thanks to Oren, Kobi and Chanan for checking it for us :-)Ilan

I just installed LLBG-01 scenery in FS9 and tested it out. It works perfectly. Thanks Ilan,MikeHere I am parked at stand J5http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/35379.jpg

Update to LLBG-01 scenery. When I first installed the scenery (above) I had placed the Gerrish Gray trees_v3 bgl file in the root FS9 scenery directory. That was WRONG. I have since moved the bgl to the scenerybasescenery folder and the scenery is now much richer with the addition of the trees. Here is part of a reply I received from Gerrish following my registration email. (the program is free but Gerrish requests the users to "register" by sending an email advising you are using his tree library)For FS2004, trees_0.bgl is best installed in scenerybasescenery because this is the new location of the 'main' scenery folder. The main texture folder remains texture as before.MikeGerrish Gray Tree Library: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=19575

Only 3 days to launch. It's looking like our own Ian Elchitz will be the Clearance Delivery guy. Not sure of the names for tower or ground but Ernie Alston will cover Departure Control. I think rather than individual Center Control on the route, we will have an upper airspace controller that will keep us all the way to Israel. Then Ilan's team will take over. Make sure you add that 30 minutes of "Extra" fuel on top of the "Hold" and "Alternate" fuel I included on the FSBuild Flight Plan in the download package. I will provide at least one more update prior to launch.

Mike, thanks for the update.I might be able to squeeze in a Cyprus Israel Flight.Don't finish work till 1630z on Saturday, so earliest I could be online would be about 1730z.

Hey Mark,Check out the area right around KTM. I am sure there is an airport there suitable for you to take off from and you could join our route directly from that VOR.Hope you make it,Mike
