March 14, 200422 yr Mark... So far I've only had the opportunity to set up one scenario:Aircraft (767 with RR engines) on ground, all IRS's in ATTitude mode with a manual heading entry on the POS INIT page (matching whiskey compass). Hydraulics on all three systems. Both FD's selected on, giving TO/TO mode. HDG HOLD (or HDG Sel) and V/S modes manually selected, then A/P A engaged....CMD appears, but after a few seconds, yellow bars appear across the mode annunciations ("CMD" still shows on ADI, but yellow AUTOPILOT message appears on Upper EICAS). No disengage warning/aural, so the aircraft must be in attitude hold mode. I also seem to remember an EICAS message relating to TRACK (TRACK ERROR?).http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/767/...TTitudeMode.jpgSo, on the ground, you won't get much use of the A/P. I suspect the same is true in the air.Slightly off topic, but interesting stuff anyway :-)Cheers.Ian.
March 14, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Ian!Interesting indeed! So the AP does actually engage. Did you feel the controls stiffen up?Is ATT the only lateral/vertical mode that engages? What about the FD?Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
March 14, 200422 yr "Did you feel the controls stiffen up?"I only saw slight movement when I powered up the hydraulics, Mark. I assume that the controls remained in the existing position because of ATTitude hold."Is ATT the only lateral/vertical mode that engages?"I didn't try all of them (LNAV/VNAV wouldn't have engaged because the FMC wasn't programmed. Heading Hold and Sel wouldn't engage. I might try ALT Hold and FLCH next time)."What about the FD?"The FD bars were there, initially, for TO/TO, but, looking at the pic, they must have biased out of view after A/P engagement(?).Cheers.Ian.
