NEW: FSHost 2.0 Multiplayer Server for FS2002

Hello! I've just released FSHost 2.0, with lots of improvements!FSHost is a Windows-based server program for FS2002 multiplayer games that can be used in place of the server built into the game itself. It adds lots of new features, and since it uses very few system resources, it's perfect for unattended public servers as well as individuals hosting a game that they're also playing in.Features:[ul][li](new in 2.0) New Web Site with online help: [a href=http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/" target="_blank]http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/[/a] [li](new in 2.0) Web Interface. View players and session status in a web browser. Three access levels: Public (for viewing current session status, players, aircraft, etc.), Admin (with a username and password, to change specific settings remotely), and Owner (full control of your server via the web).[/li] [li](new in 2.0) Flight Plans for ATC sessions. Players enter plans from the chat window, and controllers can open (approve), close, edit, and delete. All event times are shown, including total Flight

Hi,Well, yes and no :-)The previous version of FSHost had a problem with add-on programs like SquawkBox, HomeRadar, and AIBridge, because they don't send the proper multiplayer messages to join the game. That's now fixed in version 2.0, and FSHost will happily let them connect as "unknown" players. (FSNav didn't have this problem, because it correctly joins the game as a pilot. And I believe there may be a new version of AIBridge that now fixes this problem in FSHost 1.8 also)However, there are other problems using SquawkBox with FSHost. First, when you connect SB to FSHost, and then connect SB to the VATSIM server, you'll see all the players in your chat window. But you won't actually see their planes. This is because SB isn't sending the correct packets for the "fake" VATSIM planes, so FS2002 refuses to show them. It works ok if you connect SB directly to FS2002, but if you connect SB to any other program running as a server (i.e. FSHost), the packets are not correct to display the planes. After a lot of discussion with the current maintainer of the SB code, it's my understanding that this will not be fixed in SB until version 3 is released, due out possibly by the end of the year.So at the moment, FSHost is probably best suited for direct IP-to-IP games, whether they're Free Flight, ATC, or however you want to play. For games on VATSIM, it's better to use SB connected directly to FS2002.Russell
