Advice for working with small taildraggers?

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi folks.Anyone know of a good place to find out about moving around an airport in a taildragger? I just started using the C185, and to move taxi (and for the take-off roll, for that matter), I have to either use spot plane view or go to 2d panel-view without the panel displayed. In RL, folks don't have that option... how do they successfully taxi, etc.?--Tony

Yep, you can see out the side and that is how you taxi and take off. Can't simulate that in this game unfortunetly.

Same for the Citabria, PIC sit's in the front seat(this is a tandom* airplane) and you are up high enough to see over the nose, and if you can't see over completely, you just pull your self up a bit on the airframe "rollbars" in front of you. I suggest adjusted the view to being high up in the cockpit, simulating the pulling up on the bars to see over, and also if you happen to be sitting on a cushion to get you that extra 2-3 inchs of height to see over the nose.--------------Paul Meyerwww.KryptonAir.comwww.LAARTCC.org

Sure you could. I find the forward 45 degree views quite adequate for S-taxis. For takeoff, position yourself such that you have a runway edge reference out the left forward view and use that until the nose comes over. And for a plane like the Stearman with the virtual cockpit, you can also shift your viewpoint from the pilot seat to slightly off the side as if you were leaning over a little and get a bit of a forward view along the fuselage.

Same with PA 19. Some neck-craning. Which would be shift-enter (I think).
